ANNOUNCEMENT: DVXUser Monthly - Subscribe Here

I wrote the story on Mike, so their claim sounds accurate.

*excited to snag the first issue!*

-Andrew

I was on another site and had seen either a cover or mock cover for the first issue and it had mike mcqueens name on it. I left him a congrats message on another site we both frequent but for the life of me i can't remember where I saw it. Any help?

So, what’s going on with dvxuser Monthly?

The short answer:

dvxuser Monthly #1 will be available January 2009, in .pdf format only.

The long answer:

There were many delays and missteps in the development of this project. Just to be clear, all the responsibility for these problems rests squarely and entirely on my shoulders.

One thing that I was adamant about was producing a print version. I felt that this was the right way to go and would provide better value for the membership and for the sponsors. The hard truth of it is that as the economy declined this year, potential advertising revenue dried up. Also, the high costs and logistical problems of printing and mailing this publication (especially to overseas members), and many other factors made it difficult to get the project in gear.

After a lot of soul searching, it’s come down to a choice: electronic distribution or not making this publication at all. So in order to jump-start dvxuser Monthly, we’re rolling out initially with a .pdf version. It’s still a hope of mine to make a hardcopy version sometime in the future. Right now, Jason and I both feel that it’s more important to get it moving and growing than to wait. Even with electronic distribution, I still feel that dvxuser Monthly will make a strong contribution to the community. Additionally, a .pdf format also allows us some wiggle room when it comes to content length and advertising.

I hope that you all had a chance to check out the Special Edition of dvxuser Monthly that covered the TimeFest finalist screening. Get ready for more. Issue #1 has been ready for some time, and we have a new cover designed by Matt James that you’re going to love. While some of the content is slightly dated, there is some good stuff in there. It will be available to you in January, with a new issue coming to you each month.

Thanks to all of you for your patience and support.

John

I had completely forgotten about this publication. January came and went. I am starting to think we may never see it.

I agree... PDF, notepad... whatever. And I hope it isn't fancy graphics that may be holding it back. I want good articles to read, period!

Long overdue, I know :) Sorry about that.

Anyways, this puppy will be coming perhaps within a week, via online pdf.

We'll send an email probably early next week to all of our subscribers asking them to confirm that they still would like to be subscribers.

We *may* also check interest in a special edition print version of the first edition. This would be at a cost however and only offered as an option for the first edition as a keepsake for those who might want one. If there is enough interest to justify it and not have to charge too much for it, we might do it.

anyways, magazine coming soon folks. John is already hard at work on the next editions, so these things should start flowing pretty regularly once we get this first one out of the gates.

Later,
Jason

And, to fill in some other info, even though John was being the "big man", he doesn't really need to put the blame on his shoulders.

Been a lot going on for a lot of people, a lot of delays were caused by me, etc. Anyways, launching a (free) magazine, online or otherwise takes a bit of work.

All that stuff is squared away now. On Monday, the last pieces will be in place and we'll start sending out emails.

To answer the questions about distribution... Don't have a firm answer yet. We will start by verifying all of the subscription emails. We will send an email to all subscribers and provide you with a link in the email to follow to confirm your subscription.

After that, we will probably email all of you and either attach the magazine to the email, or provide you with a link to where you can view/download it.

We will also make an announcement on the forum for those who may not be subscribed. To view the magazine, you must be subscribed. Subscription is free, and we will not sell your personal information or spam you, etc. We will put an opt-out option in place as well that will be easy for you to do should you ever decide that you no longer wish to receive emails/subscriptions from dvxuser monthly.

Just bear with us as we roll everything out. We'll try to get a feedback page up as well that will allow you all to easily submit your feedback via online form and have an email sent to the appropriate person(s).

Later,
Jason
