OTHER: Drawing With Chalk Feature Film Trailer

This looks amazing. I mean "entire package" amazing. Your story pulls heartstrings, your images are easy on the eyes and you cut that trailer just right. I definitely would rent and/or buy this flick.

Thanks miamivideo and stinkpot,

Our hope is exaclty that... "pull the heartstrings" and get you drawn into the world of these people.

I used the Sound Devices 722 for the audio with Schoeps Mics. We always sent a signal to the HVX200 for guide audio (which I had to manually sync ithe SD 722 audio later in post). My soundman had a Sound Devices mixer that he used to send the signals back (He also recorded the same source twice (at two different levels to account for variations in the levels of the dialogue).

One reason my budget went up was because of the higher end equipment costs (yes, I bought everything for the film myself.

Great job on this. I'm in NYC as well and would be eager to hear about updates, screenings, etc.

Hi Mark,

We are trying to work something out with SUNY Purchase at the moment. My DP, Michael LaVoie, is an alumni of the school so we are trying to get the film department to showcase this to the students. If this happens, I'll post it here (this would also be a cast/crew screening and would be 'invite' only so you'd have to PM a request). We should have more info by mid-week.

Originally we were going to screen at the Tribeca Theaters but the cost was too high (maybe in the future...).

Thanks!

Thanks!

Check out Pioneer. They are very friendly to independent film. Ray Privett is the programmer there.

Thanks Mark :dankk2:

I'll call Pioneer tomorrow (I actually remember seeing that site before; I think it was because they don't show DVD or Blu-Ray). I'll probalby go with HDCAM anyway, but I was holding out until the film was COMPLETELY finished (I'm still mixing songs) since the cost for that format is so high.

Hey Mark,

Wouldn't you know that I just read that the Pioneer is closing it's doors on Oct. 31st for good. :(

Another casualty in this rough economic time (and the outragous cost of NYC rent).

Looked like a great place with a great history... damn shame.

Great trailer, definitely one of the best I've seen on DVXUser. Maybe a tad long, but good nonetheless. Great acting as well, I think that's what makes the difference.

Good luck!

Todd, I saw your trailer from the thread about cost for features. But WOW! AWESOME- MAGNIFICENT Definately one of the Absolute Best Trailers and Stories I've seen on DVXUser. Sh*t one of the best I've seen period from the United States for a very long time. I'm not a personal fan of Dramas, but your trailer made me want to go check your movie out. It had drama and it had joy and it had friends with a dream that wanted something above all other obstacles! That's a movie I can definately relate to!

GREAT JOB! Can't Complement you enough - good job!

Yikes, that's sad.

Anthology Film Archives is good too. They are on Second and 2nd. Another indie venue. Pretty decent house inside and good location for getting people there.

dude you are awesome:beer::thumbup:, camera have some limitation thou, overall noise, and you pushed a little passed the camera dark scene limit, but it's a very decent film, better than all the crap Hollywood is doing now.

Amazing work, man. You should be very proud.

Thanks Justin,

I've quietly admired your project for some time. I really hope your film does great (plus I also love the title and what you've been able to accomplish and the inspiration you've given to so many filmmakers on this forum)!

Maybe one day we'll toast to Indie films in a Hollywood hot spot!

I will buy this when it comes out on dvd! =]

It looks pretty good but I read everything on your site and I would love to help support you.

I wasn't fun of the look (you guys were so afraid not to over expose the practicals in the frame and dimmed them down so much that they stop being lights lighting a surface but rather just objects in the frame) but the feeling of the film (and the trailer) totally works. So congratulations!

It was put into contest ("feeling of the film works") and the critique was followed by a specific reason (being afraid to over exposed inconsequential aspect of the frame). So we are jumping the gun a bit, aren't we Prodigi?

No harm done.

I was going for a certain esthetic feeling to the film (and at times we had the footage underexposed; which btw the trailer was not color corrected when I cut it together so some of the footage is actually darker than what they are now). And thanks for the comments.

I'm totally willing to accept any critique (if I accept a positive review, I have to acknowledge a negative). Some people don't like the washed out/desaturated appearance of the film (my choice) and I can understand peoples opinions. As far as the practicals, for the most part they were not meant to be the lighting source in the scene (source (ceiling lights) isn't seen in the trailer but is in the film), but rather a mood choice for the characters (especially in the basement/wood walls scene).

I know some of the footage is grainy (which I've managed to clean up since) but for the most part the lighting was well thought out and executed so I have no major issues with it (but I love comments because they only can make you stronger for the next film). We really tried to get our final output when we shot (of course we had to color correct, but most of it was minor).

I'm always happy when the critiques are of a technical elements. I may not agree or see the critique valid (and sometimes I will), but I'd rather have someone say the lighting is too dark or the color is washed out over comments that the acting stinks and the script sucks eggs.:)

And keep in mind that Prodigi wasn't trying to insult anyone.
