Affordable shoulder brace

Yeah, I will. Not bad for run and gun I guess. With the quick realease, it's still easy to take it out for a quick low or high angle shot.

the Phil Bloom article looks to be a step up, possible just a more versatile model. Not bad pricing at all though I swear I saw my dentist remove some teeth with something that looked really close to that.

All I can say is you get what you pay for. Chances are youll use this once and look for other options ( all of which are around 400 to 600 ). Dont waste the money... IMHO go with the DV Rig Pro. Way more usefull and comfortable than the Cavision , Zacuto, 16 9 options.

I made one I wear all day..... External monitor, firestore mounted and all that stuff. The best advice I can give you is get a brace with counter balance and a prop rod off the waste band.

The low cost shoulder mount that our customers have been getting is from Smitronix.

They just announced a new verion of this that has a 3-Stud gold mount on the back of it. I'm sure that helps balance out the weight. It also has a quick release on it. On the high end, the Zacuto Newsman Rig is prefered.

I have the one Philip Bloom reviewed that is made by the same company, The Cine City. From the little I've used it, I will say it's a pretty great piece of gear for the money. I also purhcased the Bogen quick release adapter for it and my Cartoni tripod, so I can switch between them. That is very nice.

I agree with the poster who mentioned the DV Rig Pro is nicer, but it's really a different animal. The DV Rig absolutely requires that you get a zoom/focus/iris controller (I have the one from Varizoom), because the handgrips are far away from the camera. That's another expense, but it works well if you have an HVX or DVX100B. My personal camera is a DVX100A, which does not allow the remote controller to control iris or focus. So the Cine City shoulder mount works better in that case, because your hands are still on the camera. Hope that makes sense. The DV Rig Pro is also much more of a beast than the Cine City device.

The Indi mount linked above also looks interesting (like the RedRock), because of its ability to integrate with matte boxes, follow focuses (focii?) etc.
