I have the DVX100a and I have a Gateway laptop. My laptop only has a USB slot and the cord for the camera is DV to not USB.....any help would be appreciated!

or you can get a firewire/usb adapter. Does the camera have analog outputs, you could use that as a last resort too

Like this link? http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-firewire-to-usb-adapter.htm

It was the first result on Google.

Firewire (IEEE 1394) and USB (Universal Serial Bus) are two separate high-speed bus technologies that allow multiple devices to be connected to a computer. The two technologies are not integrated, and it is not possible to connect a USB device to a Firewire port either directly or through the use of a Firewire to USB adapter.

Here's a tip for you. When you do a Google search, why don't you actually read some of the pages? Just click on a couple of the "many results" and try to do some research before you try and be condescending.

EDIT: Hey, here's yet ANOTHER page that says there's no such thing. Maybe there's truth to something if MORE THAN ONE SITE says there's no such thing?

Firewire and USB Hubs:
The fact is that, there is no such device as the Firewire to USB adapter. However, the meaning of this is not that the devices having the Firewire technologies are useless, in case the individuals have a USB port. This statement also holds truth for the reverse case. The fact remains that the Firewire to USB adapter cannot exist on account of the various differences in the two technologies.
To solve this problem, some companies offer hubs that support both the Firewire as well as the USB technologies. A device made using such a technology has a single hub containing two ports. These ports can be either internal or external, wherein one is used for the Firewire and one for the USB. This helps the functioning of devices having either type of technologies.

I googled it, and thus assumed it worked. Sorry for the bad advice. You can get one of those USB analogue converter boxes, but your best bet is probably to get a cheap firewire card.
