i have an Imac here are the specs

EDIT:Final Cut Studio 2
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz
Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
SMC Version: 1.20f4

i have a laci if that's any consolation

and i also apologize that i don't have a mac pro, which would be ideal, but pay checks are always smaller than you thought they would be.

any ways i just need to know how i can get the best resolution/color/everything from my p2 card, because im sure there no way to put a p2 directly into my computer, so would i have to get a p2 storage, like this in the link below.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/413447-REG/Panasonic_AJ_PCS060G_AJ_PCS060G_60_GB_P2.html

since it connects firewire or usb does that lose any resolution, should it be connected by an HDMI cable?

i've just never used p2 before so this would be very helpful.

thanks!

Dillon,

Your computer seemed fine, but you have not mentioned what software would you be to running. If you are thinking on using Final Cut Pro (very reliable) you should increase your memory, 4 gig will make it very stable.
As far as the P2 workflow you need to do some homework; but just so you know you can use your camera (HVX or HPX) connected trough the firewire and transfers will be very easy.

This board is a great resource. Dig in and you'll find great information.

Dillion,

You're missing the whole point of P2! The neat thing about it is, it's just information. They're files. When you're transferring footage from the cards to your computer, you aren't sending a video signal, it's just a file structure. So it doesn't matter how you transfer it.

You can:
1. Use P2 Store
2. Use P2 Drive
3. Run Firewire or USB from the camera
4. Use PCMCIA slot, or Dual Adapter
etc.

Regardless of which of these options you choose, the P2 files you get will be EXACTLY THE SAME, and that's the beauty of it. The only difference is how long it will take.

Don't worry about "losing color resolution", or anything like that. You're just dealing with files.

Personally, I wouldn't spend money on anything. Just run Firewire out from the camera. The only downside to this is you have to have the camera available, which means you can't dump one card while you're out shooting the other.

i have the newest version of FCP, how long does it normally take to firewire some DVCPRO footage? Because i'm just doing an interview and then taking the camera right back home to load up.

thanks for the help ben

And are there any issues i should worry about with grain and noise because I've seen a lot of threads talking about how bad it is with the 170 vs the 200a.

In my opnion, this has been debunked. The 170 is cleaner and has more detail than the HVX200 and looks almost identical to the HVX200A. There is no excessive noise issue with the 170, it doesn't look as surgically clean as the EX1 but I don't want it to. Thank goodness for choices, it would be pretty boring if the 170 and 200A looked as clean as the EX1, I prefer the look of the 170 and I shoot with the EX1 every week. EX1? Great camera and great picture but it just doesn't excite me as much as the images that the 170/200A make.

Different strokes and all that.

Dan
