Your SCENE FILE settings for HPX170

Supposedly, the ratio of the numbers between the HVX200(a) and the HPX170 is different. We just went through many shoots these 2 weeks. I'm looking at my footage and my footage is EXTREMELY noisy, it's unbelievable.

As a result, my last shoot, 2 nights ago, we just played it safe and used the stock Cine-V settings, and the pictures looked great.

However, I guess I'm just struggling to put together a good scene file together to try its best to mimic film.

(Yes, I understand i purchased a video camera and it isn't film and will never be film, but we are all here buying 24p cameras w/ 35mm adapters+lenses so we can try our best to mimic it, including you.)

Care to share your scene files?

Thanks,

Yes, I shot something on Sunday and the mid-tone, 40-50ire gray/off whites are very noisy in
Cine D. Not just luma noise, but chroma noise as well. Yet the blacks seem to be okay, so hoping Cine V will be better noise wise. I want to start checking on what effect detail, saturation and various gammas have on noise. Cine D was a big disappointment.

CineD has always been the noisiest gamma, however, the noise I got in CineD on the 200A was more than acceptable. It's another "no way" situation with the 170...

Again, I'm going to try Willis' method and use stock settings...

Can you do a Vimeo upload or something similar for footages? That'd be sweet. I wish I had my camera right now but it's not back until tomorrow.

Ya, I have some stuff I shot today that came out clean that I will post up also.

gorgeous shot, Willis.

My guess is it's just that this cam behaves a bit differently than the HVX200a. I'm pretty impressed with this shot though. Seeing any issues on native rez stuff?

might be just me, but it just seems that this clip seems a bit too "video" for me, perhaps it's the native colors and the colored bulb kinos we used.

but, it seems that the stock CineV settings are one of the only solutions for me to record w/ less noise as possible. =/

I just tried out most of Barry's presetted scene files from his book & CD.

they all seem to be extremely noisy... including the "LOW NOISE" preset.
EDIT: i take back what i said about the "LOW NOISE" it's not as noisy as it seems, check next post*

I think it has something to do with the Master PED. any thoughts?

ok, here's 2 tests for all of you that owns, thinking of owning, renting, or thinking of renting the Panasonic AG-HPX170P

#1, I don't know why Vimeo downsized my 1280x720 footage, but just deal with it.
#2, 1st video is: 3 of Barry Green's presets VS. Panasonic's Cine-like presets
#3, 2nd video is: Barry Green's LOW NOISE preset fused w/ Panasonic Cine-V + CineD

enjoy

Hey Willis,

Since I don't have the book, what's the Barry Green's Low Noise Preset?

I'm wondering if I can dial it in on my HMC150. I think because they are the same sensor and the same 72 diameter lens, I am also experiencing some of the same noise issues. Hmm..

Thanks,

-G

Thanks Nexis & Willis!

Nice things is I can use most of the HPX settings to change my scene files.

I'll see if that helps on the HMC150 side of things.
