* New DVX member! Need help with wireless microphone system for DVX.

Hey everyone.

First off, I want to introduce myself. My name is David and I have been reading these forums for quiet some time but never really registered until now! Woohoo! Feels good to finally join.

Okay, back to the main subject of this thread. I currently do a lot of filming in nightclubs and looking for a decent wireless handheld microphone system/ wireless transmitter for the host/promoters to speak into.

Some of my dj friends said to go to guitar center to pick up one of those kits that have the whole package (microphone, receiver, etc.) that runs rougly from 300-500 dollars. I've heard SHURE makes some pretty nice ones. I'm not sure which one is good or if it will work with my DVX at all.

I am not looking for something too expensive in the thousands of dollars. Just a decent wireless handheld microphone! =)

Does anyone in here have any input or suggestions on a good wireless microphone system. I don't want a lavaliere mic.

Thanks for your help!

Welcome, David!

There are tons of threads around here about wireless systems. The system that you linked to is not right for your purpose... you aren't going to get what you want with a tabletop/rack-mount receiver. Make sure that you get a camera-mounted or ENG receiver that... it will be battery-operated and can travel with the camera.

Most of the systems that are discussed around here (the Sennheiser G2 being the most popular) have hand-held transmitters available. You can also get a combo kit that has a belt-pack transmitter with lavaliere mic, as well as a plug-on transmitter that can convert any hand-held mic to wireless. Please note that you can only use one transmitter at a time on any given system.

Great. Thanks for the reply C2V. Can you point and link me in the direction of some good reliable sources where I can purchase some of the items you listed above?

Thanks again.

The Sennheiser G2 system is the best option for entry level wireless. Unfortunately, the stock mic that comes with the system is not so good, so you want to replace that with a lav wired for g2 like the countryman emw, b6, sanken cos11 etc.

Make sure you get the correct frequency for your area.

I think he needs just the handheld mic +transmitter+receiver.

Take the Sennheiser ! The transmitter attaches to the XLR input of any mic and the G2 receiver attaches to your camera.

You get the handheld transmitter and the beltpack transmitter both together in one package for $100 more that you would pay for either one with receiver. If you want to buy the other transmitter later separately, it is $400 so it makes sense to go for it off the top.

If you're getting the plug-on tx, make sure you get the 500 series, not the 100. The 500 series does phantom power, the 100 series does not.

But for interview coverage in a nightclub... dynamic hand-held would be best, so no phantom requirements. If you think you'll be using a condenser or shotgun at any point, then definitely go for the 500 series.
