d90 Scene Rehearsal, Prt.2

A couple of weeks ago I posted a scene rehearsal for a film I'm working on.

Here is the next iteration, shot a week after: Once the opening sequence is done, I'm using the d90 (during the scenes at the beach). Everything before that is Andromeda, Ex3, and a canon rebel. I did sync sound by rough slating a recording done with an 'okay' shotgun mic and my dvx.

The WMV is 68mb
....and the h264 is 146 mb, the scenes are 9 min. total.. everything is still a test at this point..

What do you think of these two actors together?

That chic reminds me of that girl from Prison Break, .. i forgot what her name is. She played the Doctor. I like the black N white stuff, great shots in that montage. The rest of the stuff was funny to watch, the only bad thing I can say is when the camera moved I was a little distracted.. but thats it.

Good Test.

Images are cool.

The phone call needs to perhaps cut back and forth to him and her or you need to use a bit better of a "phone" recording for him.

When you are using the email shot move it around like it is being filmed instead of a screen shot. It breaks up the action to much.

I like the throw up thing. Maybe it is she's pregnant or maybe she's just sick to her stomach.

I like.

I want to know more.

I love the cuts between her phoning in and the empty office!

A++++++

Black and White credit sequence is kick ass!

I dig the time lapse.

Maybe use it as the opening instead of the title sequence.

What are you using for your sound?

The dynamic between the two actors is very cool.

Your "Jean Claude Van Damnit" is pretty funny!

Creepy too!

I can only hope there will be twisted violence and hot sex!

Very very promising!

I like it! Nice shots and time lapse!

I think the actors work well together.. Some building chemistry, his motives for offering to show her something more seem pretty cloudy, rather just considering an eventual get into her pants. So hope thats part of the plot :)

Only thing that took me out briefly was the change to the wall scene. Very stark. Almost different camera, different light, etc. Made it seem like another day shot rather than around the corner. Nothing a little extra touch of post wouldn't fix maybe...

Nice. !:)

so, everything AFTER the credits is the d90? the stuff in the park and all that, the dialogue between the two (the actress reminds me of Elizabeth Perkins), all that was the d90?

sound is super...photography as always...lens is not to sharp.I`m getting lost in the narrative, love the story,composition..I already said sound :)

watching it again (without sound and ignoring the subtitles), there were a few jello moments. BUT i didn't notice them the first time through, again leaning to content over tech. the more i see from the D90 in capable hands, the more i'm sold. and the more i envy the talents holding the d90 (matthew, zak, a couple others).

maybe i'm a newbie to filmmaking, but i have learned a ton making a couple shorts and a music video (and then learned how much i needed to learn). but now, having learned (in theory) a lot of what i didn't know, i am ready to learn in practice and i can't see a better option than the D90. it's cheap. it's not perfect, but neither is the canon 5dmk2. let me just say i am excited about the D90 and what i've seen talented folks doing with it and can't wait to get my, as yet, untalented hands on it and do my due diligence and learn the f+ck outta this thing.

your actress reminds me of Elizabeth Perkins from the 80's flick "Big". Looks good. I always see it as if you have a good story then it shouldn't even really matter what it was shot on. I still believe the D90 in the right hands could kick some ass.

Would using a dolly or a crane fix the rolling shutter/jello effect?

Anyway, looks good Matt.

THANKS for the COMMENTS - extremely helpful for me at this embryonic stage of the project.

For sound I was using a long, old Audio Technica shotgun, attached to my DVX, I made a ghetto windscreen out of some furry fabric.

The shotgun was decent outdoors, but a reflecting nightmare inside.

So for slating I didn't really do much, I just started shooting with the d90, and then rolled on the dvx which was on a bag on my shoulder. And then I captured everything, and synced everything afterwards using the reference sound from the d90.

ESTBEVERDE - Thanks for the tip on shooting the email screen as a 'live' element rather than a static screenshot, I think that will really work, maybe a slight push in, the wee'est bit of shake etc.

Yes, there was a very soft 28mm thrown into the mix there... it couldn't focus to infinity for some reason..

I've already tested the d90 with an 'indie slider' a great smooth micro dolly for the d90...

You're welcome Matthew.

Thanks so much for posting this early part of your work.

In truth it looks pretty damn good already!

in actuality, it works you got it wrong. someone was emailing the girl and it's not like that word is very common. but then again, someone might see your film and think that's the proper way to spell something. it works both ways.

This was great Matthew !

I really enjoye this. If this is rehearsal footy I can't too see the real deal.

Very well done, nice work with the talent, the shots, the edit .

Matthew,

Fantastic work. I am very impressed this is only rehearsal footage.

You're work with the D90 is extremely inspiring! Thank you.

One question... the indie slider, where can I find it? I Googled to no avail.

Oh, and I like the talent. I like their look and their chemistry.
