Z7 and sgpro 35mm adaptor

I've just bought a Sony Z7 and I'm going to be shooting a music promo within the next week. I've also got an sgpro which I want to use with it but the Z7 can only focus in close enough on the glass in the sgpro while in macro mode - which only works when the camera is in autofocus. This causes all sorts of focus drifting issues as you would expect. I would have thought that the achromat on the sgpro would mean the camera didn't have to be in macro but unfortunatley not. I know other poeple have figured out how to lock the focus in autofocus mode but I have yet to work it out. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Thanks for that but I've had a scout around on there before and it wasn't much help. I posted here as it is more of a Z7 issue than the adaptor, the Z7 still needs to be in macro mode to use any 1/3" 35mm adaptor.

You could PM Peter O'Hare and ask to him: he has tried this set and he is a DVXuser or you could answer directly to Wayne

Z7 can be put in manual in macro actually, i've got focus assigned to a button, and you can toggle between the two when focus ring is forwards. Love to see your footage / results as i'm looking to get a sgpro with z7

Indeed, yeah I saw that, sounds good I think, hopefully wont be too much more expensive than Sgpro

Thanks for the reply coffee, I'll give it a go. I'm assuming you assign the focus while in the macro/autofocus mode then switch to manual focus then hit the assigned button? Hopefully have a finished video in a couple of weeks which I'll upload.

Yeah something like that, select manual when focus ring is forwards, have a go, can probably have it in manual in the settings but i could only find it by using an assigned button.

Hi all, I've just bought a Sony Z7. I'd not heard of the SGpro until stumbling on this forum. Since the Z7 can take other lenses, what benefits are there to having the SG pro? Cheers. Rx

Sticking other lenses on the front will give a huge crop factor due to the size of the 1/3 ccd compared to full frame 35mm. Basically a 50mm lens would give you the equivalent to about a 350mm lens without adapter like the sgpro. It wouldn't offer as great a DOF as a 35mm adaptor as well. I think this is somewhat right, i'm fairly new to the whole 35mm adpator scene as well!

Chris, I like the clip.
What lenses did you use with the SGpro and Z7?
What monitoring option did you use for focus, ie. marshall or something?
Are you from poison pen films in Leeds..?
I'm looking at similar locations in Nottingham theatres/bingo halls, how much did you get the location for?

Sorry for all the questions

1) Thanks

2) Some battered old nikon f mounts one of which (the 28mm which delivers the great looking wider shots at the front of the stage) was bought on ebay for £17! Bargain!!!

3) We had a 4 inch lcd screwed to the top of the z7 which was flipped. We didnt have the right connections for it though so we only got black and white but it was just about good enough for contrast and focus

4) Yes I am from Poison Pen in Leeds but this video was done independently from that through my own set up, under the name Freethinking Productions. The band have tagged it wrong - I need to have a word with them about that!

5) We had to pay a projectionist but the venue hire was free as we agreed a deal that if we put the venue exterior on the top and tail of the video as advertising they would drop the fee.

No problem, always happy to help

then, what's the sense of getting an expensive 1/3" sensor cam with interchangeable lens capability. if it's 2/3" chip, it makes sense. but a 1/3", i just don't get it.

Some people may not want the look and feel of a 35mm lens depending on what they are filming. If you were shooting wildlife for exmaple you may just want to put a longer lens on the front.

Ive used the Z7 with my SGpro r3 Flip, very nice results.

Im using a Z7 again in afew weeks.
