Hello Everyone,

I am shooting my first feature film. I purchased the DVX100B 2 years ago and love the camera. I have been told by many people though that I really need to purchase a Lens Adapter and Rod Support system with a 35mm lens to enhance the look of the movie. I am putting a lot of time and effort into this movie so I want to ensure that it will look its best.

I just purchased this NIKON NIKKOR 35mm 1:2.8 AI LENS:

And was looking at this Lens Adapter / Rod Support system:

Does all of that look good so far? If so, I am unsure of which Rod Support system to select in the drop down list.

Anything else that I may need to know?

Any help you guys can provide to me ASAP I would appreciate it. I did not think that I needed any of this and we start shooting this Saturday. So unfortunately this is all last minute and need your help fast.

Thanks in advance.

correction you do not NEED any of this these are luxuries if you have shots that are already planned that really need shallow depth of field and you feel it is really necesary to move the story i would recomend renting one and doing all those shots you need first the dvx is a great camera just by itself many people argue that you need one if your willing to spend $2000 on an adapter i would say make sure you have a great mic and lights you need lights

I know it is not a "Necessity" for me to get this... But I really want to make this movie the best movie that it possibly can be. I plan on taking this film to every single film festival that I can enter it in. For me 2 grand is a lot of money, and it will be coming out of my savings account (ouch). But I feel that if I do not do it than I will be hurting my chances of taking this movie to the top.

there are lots of films made on the dvx that have been in many festivals that did not use 35mm adapters its all pretty much up to your personal preference

rent. especially since u say it will be coming out ur savings

I searched, it would of ended up being more expensive to rent than to purchase. Places around here wanted $300 for each weekend and we are shooting this for 6 weekends. That equals pretty much the price that I paid to own it :)

So yes I already purchased it :D

wow that is a expensive 'necessity'....

DOF can also created in post-processing after capture it... with big advance, you can exact regulate how much DOF you want.... little playing with the sliders and you see what you get.... now if you want to add a little more focus... then you have to re-shoot it....
I try to shoot with 2 camera's on the same time, one with DOF and one without...
on that way I have always a clean backup for in case I want to change the DOF during editing...

for the DVX you can get also the RedRock M2 SD adapter for only $995
personal I prefer that system as they've also a nice mattebox in their program.... and they have an extension for the rod system to hang up your accessoires like LCD, battery, wireless mics, FS100, etc...
does have anyone experience with the RedRock M2 and Mattebox ???
thinking to get it for my little DVX ;)
