SET PHOTOS

-------

We shot this in one day, for under $3k. Everything was shot on the HDX-900 except the intro, and a few flashback scenes, where we used the HVX-200 with a letus prototype that was very dirty.

I'm still working on effects and color, but I wanted to share. I created a quick web page. 720P version will be up soon. Hope you enjoy!

Please share your comments or questions! Thanks.

that was beautiful. im a sucker for war movies. I live in the city so i have no chance in hell of making one. (well vietnam/wwii) awesome production value. good story too. Id love to see you turn that around and make a feature

great production value
would have improved if you had more days so your actors could be a bit more believable
music was too generic
the look of the movie was great
good beginning, kee up the good work

Seeing all of the set photos and seeing what you were able to make out of one day and 3 thousand dollars was VERY inspiring to me. Thank you so much =]

Thanks for the comments gentlemen.

A few years ago a WWII feature "Saints & Soldiers" was made here in Utah. We set up a meeting with the director, who shared his contacts. One of which was an old man who collected military vehicles, that also lived nearby the shoot location. I think we paid him $400 for his time and fuel.

The short was supposed to place in winter (Battle of the Bulge), but we couldn't get permits to film in the National Forest that would have most closely resembled Belgium. So instead we shot early spring, and said it was Italy.

The intro and flash-back were re-shoots, some of the test audience didn't catch on to the simple twist, so we had to pound it into their skulls. But it also afforded us the opportunity to add a neato stylish intro. Plus it's always fun to go out to the desert and shoot some guns. :)

Glad you've all enjoyed it! Please keep the comments coming!

Great work Greg, excellent continuity of light and exposure. I know it can be tricky when shooting everything in blaring sun. Definitely makes contrast tough to keep in check.

colour correction

colour correction

congratulations on this project. you obviously did a lot of preparation.

I'd like to ask how you went about colour correction in post. I like the look you achieved, and I wondered if you'd share any of the techniques you used, and what software you used.

thanks,

tongzie

I color corrected it all in FCP using the 3-way color corrector. I boosted the mids, and highlights, then crushed the blacks for the most part. The I turned the saturation down until it was almost black and white. For the night shots I added more blue in the highlights, and the day shots I added more green to the mids.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for all the comments!

LUVED this. what everyone said basically :D.....only thing was when Lt Reese was telling the jokes, in his over the shoulder shots (soldiers facing him med shot) we dont see smoke...but when its their over the shoulder shot theres smoke. Very noticable to me.

Good job

Ha ha, I was wondering when someone was going to notice that. Yeah we shot it all in one day so when the generator (that powered the fog machine) went down, we didn't have time to wait and fix it. Nice attention to detail!

No this isn't on YouTube, I'd shutter to think how it would look. uh-huh-huh-huh.
