I couldn't believe that dvxuser is behind on this, still showing the ver. 4.6 sticky, so I thought Id say it myself. Version 5 has just been released.
 
This is one of those strange upgrades for me where I almost certainly lose out due to historical purchases - for instance, we puchased Vitascene already (which is now part of the EDIUS package.)

And it's frustrating that there is no elementary output for M2V and PCM sound for DVD encoding.

That said it's only £150 (limited period) for the upgrade which I'm sure will be worth it.

Good time for newbies to get involved especially with all the extra free plug-ins.

I believe there is no difference in upgrading pro to broadcast in this version which makes it an even better bargain to get into P2.
 
Is Edius 5.0 a newer version of Edius broadcast? I saw edius 5.0 at the IBC2008 and was very impressed since there was no rendering time and I liked the region filters. I was planning to go FCS 2 but now I am really doubting. What do you guys think? If I go Edius and i want to run it on a powerful labtop with blueray burner what labtop can you advice ??????
 
wow!! my post is now a sticky! I am honored. :-)

5.0 is NOT a free upgrade from 4.x. It is $250 if upgraded before Dec. 31st.
 
Got the upgrade, it's a nice package and comes with its own dongle.

Not sure yet how to roll it out, because of current projects.

Definitely finish what you're doing first, unless there's some new feature in v5 that you must have.

And for the sake of completion, EDIUS versions prior to v5 will not open projects saved from EDIUS version 5 or newer.
 
Only just saw this. Edius 5 wow!!! How come we don’t get emails from Grass Valley tell us of this upgrade? Finally some of the features we've been asking for.
But still no Masking tool...Dang!
 
If you have EDIUS registered on the Desktop.GrassValley.com site and have opted-in for News, then you should receive or have received a notice. But it might've landed in your bulk/spam.
 
I'm running a Sony Vaio Ar51 2ghz core duo 2x 160gb sata 4gb ram pci express card reader (EX1 SXS) dual layer Blu-ray burner HDMI output 17 inch cost: 850 euro

Runs Edius 5 Encore CS3 - maybe get a faster processor for more HD layers, but quite workable.

I had a email from Edius about the upgrade, though the upgrade price for me in Aus is $399.

Not sure if I'll upgrade, who will?
 
The changes and updates look really good. I didn’t see in there that it can edit 10 bit yet. But they will charge you from what I've heard about a $1000 for the 10 bit AVCIntra codec plug-in. I recently shot on a HPX3000 and wanted shoot with in the optional AVCintra codec but when Canpous wanted all that money and I would still only be able to edit 8 bit I decided to shoot DVCProHD. Still looked pretty dam good though!
 
be very careful with the eddy5 upgrade. the default installer will corrupt applications that rely on the ilok anti-piracy drivers. amazingly, the fix is included on the install disc, but, GV says absolutely NOTHING about the problem.
