Cinemek's g35 adapter shipping june 20th!

Jonathan,

How about enlisting some beta testers to try it out on different cameras.

You can create the protocol (I'm sure folks here would give you great input) and some of us here can test it out on various cameras.

This surely will help define the adapter's abilities and help you establish it in the market place.

Great idea. I am going to start setting that up. We have our hands pretty full with continuing development of a few different products one of which is an iPhone app that I'm pretty stoked about. There is some pretty good stuff to come. Right now we are focusing on shrinking our shipping lead times. (currently 2-3 weeks)

Hey guys. I have been lurking around here from time to time. Decided to finally get registered. I have been following all of the threads of the G35 because I have been waiting for a long time for it to get released. I finally received mine last Friday and I can't put it down.

I went wandering Saturday morning with a friend of mine to see if we could find something to film. We found a guy originally from Mexico and we were able to interview him and his nephew. This link is just a few shots and not the finished product:

Let me know what you think.

Looks nice JohnLee. Looks like slight vignetting throughout but not terrible. I'm trying to download the .mov file but not having any luck. I like the music as well.

You have any pics of the G35 on your A1?

Good Deal.

Awesome iPhone App = Gold!

Thanks. I will get a photo up soon. The G3 is actually a lot more compact and shorter than I thought it would be. Very nice.

man, some seriously amazing bokeh.

It is too bad the adapter kills so much light / no flip. I would grab it in a heartbeat otherwise.

I have been shooting with adapters for a while now and IMHO the light loss is not that bad. yeah you can't shoot inside without good lighting, but if you are serious you shouldn't be shooting with bad lighting anyway, right? It's well worth the trade off for the real bokeh. Now that I have been seriously comparing bokeh, I wouldn't want anything else.

i agree completely, but when you go from having a few 1k's, 330 watt fluorescents, 150 hmis, to an adapter with more light loss then what you are currently using, you are talking about a whole other ballpark in terms of lights. Something that becomes either unaffordable, or non transportable.

You go from needing a 150watt hmi, to a 575 hmi. a 1 k to a 2 k. etc..

I completely agree with PaPa on this one! The G35 is exciting, but until I see some pretty impressive footage, I don't think I'd even consider it due to it's light loss issues.

Flip... I can disregard due to the new features of the HPX and other cameras.

Flange... I love!

Give this to Philip Bloom and see what he has to say about it!

Congrats on shipping the G35, Jon! I, along with many, have been waiting and watching for this for a long, long time. I'm a Brevis user but I'm also excited and curious about the G35.

Can the G35 be used with Cinevate's Flip Module? I'd be curious to test this in conjunction with my HPX170. I'm also curious how the G35's ground glass compares to Cinevate's new CFX(L), which is available now for the Brevis.

From what I have observed, no other adapter gets the same Bokeh like the G35 except for the Movietube. I want to post more footage soon, but if you look closely at the out of focus areas they are very large sharp circles (just like a bare camera blur) rather than a phoney looking guassian blur.

Yes, this is very impressive. And I'd love to play around with a G35 connected to my HPX170. I hear Cinevate's CFX(L) diffuser (patent pending, I think) is supposed to be incredibly filmic too. Very curious how these two compare.

Some quick answers

Some quick answers

Light loss.
Yes, the G35 reduces your stop by 1.5. However, it is not "lost". We know exactly where it is going. In order to achieve a sharp scattering angle (the cause for good bokeh and no fall off) you need to efficiently scatter the light. Also, pay close attention to the blown out sections of john's footage. Take note of the high contrast lines. The G35 handles the "head" of the exposure range with ease to take the pressure off of your camera lens. These are two qualities that are often overlooked in adapters.

The G35 is not a "low light" adapter. It's not intended to be. We have done that and just plain didn't like the sacrifices required to gain that 1 stop. Fortunately the brevis and Letus are great low light solutions which compliment the G35 well. Or you can just take the adapter off (it only takes 10 seconds to remove and replace. ) regardless we have all been very lucky for this open forum as there are now several wonderful solutions for under $1500. 3 years ago a wide angle adapter cost nearly that much.

High shutterspeeds maintenance free operation.
There is somthing very exciting about being a part of a community and watching the developmet of a product (Dennis Wood) with Cinevate or "Guskers the cat" for some peope. Screen upgrades achromat upgrades all of these allow everyone to see a fledgeling company grow. We did not choose that path as a static solution makes it difficult. To assemble these you need to be in a "clean" environment. Clean bench is a necessity. You won't have to ever worry about a piece of dirt showing up or that you need to blow off or re-aligning a screen because it became a-jar. No maintenance required.
More to come in a bit. Sorry for my spelling. I'm on my phone. Just wanted to reply. :)
