David Blaine and the Dive of Death

David Blaine is a pretty cool guy. I was able to go to the taping of the bullet catch segment. My friend Carl was his consultant on the bullet catch. Carl is the only other man other than Blaine that has done a REAL bullet catch. It was such an honor as a magician myself to meet Blaine, and get to witness a bullet catch in person.

Let me tell you. It was real.

Well no one said they shot into a steel cup into his mouth. Different context.

Even so my friend, and yes I will be a 'Debbie Downer', my dad had his teeth and several parts of his jaw and tongue blown out the side of his face thanks to a bullet , fighting for this country.

Anyways, I know it's entertainment. As long as it's presented that way I'm cool.

So, were still cool ZFarms. No prob. Best wishes in the fests. Have enjoyed your previous stuff. :)

//Jeez. What happened to "Keep it tight, light and bright.?

yeah he caught the bullet in a steel tube. i'm not saying anything to the contrary. i know he didn't catch it with his teeth, but still, it's dangerous.

I knew someone who tried this bullet catching stunt, well his funeral arrangement is this Saturday.

The first time I saw David Blanie I thought he was the real deal, now I'm not so sure anymore plus there's a website that tells you how he did all his tricks.

Well a thought came to mind* (no dis-respect to David B)

*cheeky voice*

"That 'Dive of Death' was not done by David Blaine, that was done by David Lame"

I'm just kiddin'

Sorry, don't mean it in a bad way.

Last I heard was the average human respone time was 10ms to react to something.
Pretty slow compared to the speed of a bullet. And... teeth will not stop a bullet. That's why they make vests and helmets and armoured humV's.

(Just joining)
ha ha! I haven't seen the bullet catch, but if you guys give me a day or two, a copy of After Effects, and Andrew Kramer's "The Bullet", I could create a real catch, too. I swear! I'll be there! REAL!

his stunt didnt work because of the bush announcement. He was suppose to jump into a dive position, and then swoop up into the air and dissapear (the helium balloons in the air) But since the announcement came on TV from bush, the wind had died down and it didn't work as planned.

i used to believe david blaine could do amazing tricks too. i was pretty convinced he was the devil or something. lol

then i talked to some real magicians and they showed me the light. we see what is possible when you attempt something live ("dive of death") and we've seen by many magician/illusionists nowadays what is possible (anything) with a taped stunt.

as filmmakers we all know what's possible too with some clever editing and a bit of faith on the audience's part. i feel like a bit of a naive child believing some of david's street magic back in the day, but hey, he's got a good post-production crew. ;-)

I still think David Blaine is a great close-up magician and his 'stunts', though grossly overblown, just go to show how 'in tune' his mind and body are together. Some of the things he does are stunts only where publicity concerned, but they're still pretty tough physically. It always makes me think that he's an like an ascetic or in training for the Chinese opera.

What we have here is a perfect example of how something out of context can cause big problems. It was never stated that a steel tube was used, instead it was implied that the impossible had been done. If we had started out with full honesty we wouldn't have had all the arguments. :)

Not trying to be rude, just saying...

I knew it was all illusion and still called him the devil on several occasions. I mean what would be the best MO, pretend to be an illusionist. (There's a movie in there somewhere). LOL.

I agree. I felt misled which forced a response I otherwise would not have given.
