Sorry if this has been discussed to death in the past but I wanted to know what are people's pros / cons of the Firestore HD recorder (any size).

If you are a Firestore owner and user, please share your likes/dislikes/suggestions for this as I'm contemplating on getting one but I need to know more about what actual users think.

TIA,
Dale

i use an fs100 along with p2 cards. here are my views.

pros:
long record times
cost per GB
mac users benefit with quicktime native

cons:
learning curve
moving pieces
hard drives fail
tethered by a cable to device
flimsy connections to camera
another battery to worry about.

I'd add to cons:

Vibration can cause hits
Fan noise
Focus Enhancements has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection

have used exclusievely with my hvx and never had a dropped frame or lost file. The cons are noise and weight.

I've had no noise issues. Weight isn't a big deal to me because I work on a tripod mostly. The Chapter 11 thing may well be a showstopper. But other than that, my FS4 Pro(HD) has moved seamlessly from my DVX100 to my EX1. I couldn't be happier.

I'm sorry to hear about the Chapter-11. I've been using various iterations since the original FS-1. It's been a great time-saver for me, over the years, especially back when we were all tape-based.

i also owned a fs100 for over a year and it never let me down. i used it mainly for live concert events.

but yeah, that whole chapter11 thing sure puts a damper on a guys confidence...
