lol, just kidding homie. i checked out your work recently and think it's crack! i think this one is hot too, it's suitable to the song for sure but needs some different scenes to break it up a bit. Those black shots with the black whips (artist in between) and the grills of the cars shining, CRACK! I loved that sh!t..... The only thing I didn't like at all was the side shots of him in the yellow lambo. Was it a lambo? anyway, the side shots looked too cheesy because it's obvious that he wasn't driving but you or you guys or your editor tried to make it a motion/driving scene which doesn't sell right.

Lot of good footage here, cant say anything other than that. But you need to do some CC on the shot of the guy driving when he is shot from the front through the windshield. He is suddenly "chocolate brown" instead of the natural color that he has in the rest of the scenes. Other than that its a nice video, and maybe get a few random street scenes or something like that to break it up, gets a bit of a boxy feeling since its a very dark video.

I second that comment on the lambo shot too.

Please dont be offended, but i think your doing some great work :)

That's not true, my mom said it's because I'm special.

Thanks Jay, Just what I was looking for man. I'm brushing up on my compositing techniques and was trying something new. It was my 1st attempt at that type of CG. Any advice on pulling such a shot off?

None taken hoeydal, I encourage it. I'm still growing and depend on these types of comments for sure.

I agree with the comments on the lambo and the cc of the artist driving forward. These are the things I am lagging on, and hope to tighten up on in future projects.

Sure! Hit up the tutorial section of videocopilot.net and look for the green screen stuff there. I used it and came up with this green screen shot of myself in my garage as a test.

Even if you didn't use a green screen and don't use after effects, I'm sure just watching andrew's tutorials you'll learn a few cool tips.

You know what, This really helps. I love the glass effect & the very subtle car turbulence. I'll definitely be doing some test.

Thanks Jay

I'm sorry, but I didn't like this at all. The shots were so extremely dark -> lighting isn't good. The way, the rappers are lighted is very artificial. In every shot, you can "feel" the lights. It should be more natural.

The shots itselves were quite boring. No originality. Everything fits right into the rap cliché -> expensive cars, expensive watches, dancing girls... and that's about it. No recognition value. It's just another rap video - you watch it, then you forget it. There's no concept or whatsoever!

The song isn't interesting. "Just another rap song" - I thought. No recognition value here as well, no originality.
Besides that, the beat of the song is hardly overdriven -> it sounds very bad.

Come on man, stop holding back, how do you REALLY feel?! No sugar-coating this time, be honest. ;)

Why do they ride with the doors open? Especially if they flying. I think it would have looked better if you had the camera higher and the door closed. This way we would se more of the moving background which would help us to feel that the car is moving. Its always good with some distant and some closer objects to referens the speed.

The shots is really dark and I would have used more backlights to "cut out" the actors from the black background. The colors feels quite cold which makes me freeze seeing those men and women in t-shirt etc. But this is of course subjective and just my opinium.

Cheers

I'm sorry to say that this guy is spot on. Perhaps you were going for the cliche look, though. In which case, it certainly wasn't bad.

I have to admit that I, too, don't like that type of music video. But I also will say that many rap artists still think that's cool, they aren't very artistic or original when it comes to that, they want to be like their heroes and back in the day it was cool and hip and original to have hot girls, pimped out cars, and bling bling. I personally came to make movies, of any sort, whether it's shorts, music videos, features, etc., that are different from the norm while still having populist appeal. So for me, I steer away from those types of stereotypes. That's one reason I won't direct a rap music video either, though. I know very little about rap, I don't like it (except for Eminem and I like Fort Minor), so I don't feel qualified to direct it either. I hate to pigeon-hole myself but I could probably only direct rock music videos. I love rock, I love rock music videos largely, so it's what appeals to me. When it comes to rap, I don't like the stereotypical feel, I don't like the music, so I can't really do it. When it comes to pop music, I hate dancing, I think dancing is stupid and a complete and utter waste of human energy. I don't care if 99% of girls like dancing, it's just as frivolous and silly as many other girl activities like shoe shopping and purse shopping, haha. So if I was told to make a pop music video and include a dance element, I'd be like forget it, no way, get another director. My videos won't have dancing in them. I'd rather just make cool videos that are against the grain. Call another hack to make your stereotypical nonsense, I don't care how popular it is, no thanks.

I can respect anyones opinion, but I really am tired of hearing what a person thinks about rap music. I'm not a rap music producer, nor song writer, so that being said everything in this video is subject to taste. The best advice that I can take from this comment is that you didn't feel the shots were original, and that it was too dark, which I don't agree with as far as the darkness. I love dark videos, and movies. I for one am not a big fan of many of the rock videos I view here and on MTV, nor the material but would never sum up the entire genre by saying I don't like rock. Anyway no hard feeling, just think your response was alittle overdriven.

Well, I shot the car scenes both ways and the client preferred the doors to be open. I'm in agreement with you there.

As far as lighting I have to stand by what was done. It was meant to look cold & dark.

I have to chime in here.....

I absolutely hate when I post something or when someone else posts something hoping to get advice or constructive critisism but instead gets detailed comments on the song. If anyone feels the need to comment on the song then you should just keep it to a minimum: "song sucks, but as for the video.........." <--- something like that... It's ridiculous to go any further then that.. I for one am NOT in the position to turn down work because of the genre or anything like that. I'm a broke filmmaker trying to work up some cash for my personal projects and sometimes I'm working to keep the lights on for that month.

In Grench's situtation, like many of the rest of us, he made the video, not the song.

Sorry for the rant. :)

Well I don't like getting up at 5:00am every morning, but I do it. What it sounds like is that you would never do anything that you don't like nor prefer, so you have my respect for sticking to your guns, but me, I don't have that luxury. I have to admit that I take on jobs at time that I don't necessarily like or am not inspired by. Your a better man then me.

I really don't agree with anything you spoke of in your comment, but at the end of the day it's just my opinion. Nothing more.

:dankk2:

I actually liked the song.

I thought the camera work and lighting needed work. There's no story here at all. Would have been smart to mix in some story shots with the rest of the video. Could have broken up the cliched bits which was stated earlier.

You could use some of your foreground a bit better too. I know you're doing green screen on some of these shots (So you're already adding fake elements) so it would have been easy to put in stuff flying past the camera in the foreground. That would have sold the car moving.

the chicks were hot.
