I'd say better. An SD monitor will be nigh unto useless for focusing HD material.id say in this case, the built-in focus assist will be as good.
For usefulness infocusing? INFINITELY better than using an SD monitor, yes.So the LCD with the focus assist will actually be better than using an SD monitor?
I can tell you from my experience with the Letus Ultimate and the HMC150, which uses three of the HPX170's four focus assists. I used my BT-LH80 monitor with its magnified pixel-for-pixel focus assist indoors, but when we went outdoors I didn't even bother to bring the monitor because the magnified focus assist and peaking were enough to ensure accurate focus. Now, this was mainly because I was a one-man crew; if I'd had a crew I would always have them bring the monitor, but as a one-man band I didn't even bother, I was getting plenty adequate results with the onboard LCD's tools.Would using the HPX170 with a 35mm adapter and no monitor be near impossible to get accurate focus on every shot? Or would the two extra focus assists and the better LCD be enough to get the job done?
Of course; you have to zoom in some to avoid vignetting with all adapters. On my normal HVX200 I have to zoom in to 27.3mm. I don't know what the proper zoom setting is for a 150/170, I didn't pay attention but it was a little more (maybe 31mm or so? Don't recall.)HMC150/HPX170 lens is wider, will using a 72mm Letus Extreme vignette at all?
