FEATURE: NO GREATER LOVE - Official Thread - Feature Film

Post Production Update

Post Production Update

On Monday Brad and I went to Kappa Studios to go over the sound mix on the film, spotting the areas we needed ADR, also tweaking foley and background effects. We spent a good 8 hrs. going through everything. Who knew finding the right cell phone ring could be so time consuming? hehe. We also did a bit of foley recording, which was pretty fun, I shot some Behind the scenes of the session.

Yesterday I got the final cut over to Kappa so they can conform their sound mix to some of the new tweaks. I also am hunting for a few pieces of VO and audio we need to fill in spots here and there.

We'll be scheduling an ADR session next week with two or three of the actors, and hopefully get that all done in a day or two.

Color correction and grading will start next week at Kappa as well.

They are there, and they rock! I can see your excitement through these pictures and it's just beautiful, the passssiioonnn! :)

Yeah, I cannot say enough about the team we had.... what a great team, and everyone truly did have a passion for the film.

This is a shot, and brief scene that didn't make the final cut of the film, but the stuff we got was still really rad, so I had to post up this grab. Enjoy.

"Fireproof" coming to theaters September 26, 2008!

"Fireproof" coming to theaters September 26, 2008!

Hey everyone. I know this is a thread following the pre-production, production, and post-production of "No Greater Love" but I wanted to take a moment to tell you about a movie coming out in a couple weeks that really needs your support!

fireprooflogo.jpg

In 2006 Sherwood Pictures film "Facing the Giants" made huge waves in the industry by grossing over 10 million dollars in a limited theatrical release. The film was made for a very low budget ($100,000 production budget) and has done incredibly well in DVD as well. That film is just as much a reason as any that films like "No Greater Love" are even looked at as marketable. This brings me to "Fireproof" which is Sherwood Pictures film coming out this September. This time Sony is releasing the film in 800 theaters across the country, and they hope for a big success. If "Fireproof" is as successful as many think it will be, it will only help films like "No Greater Love" have a chance for even more exposure.

Thanks!

This movie looks great, amazing cinematography. HD really helps it a lot. I liked the trailer, but could have done without the cheesy lifetime music at the end. Looks awesome though. I'm not religious but enjoy movies that are similar. or about "finding your faith". Depending on how it is executed. I don't want to turn it into some debate. but looks good.

Thanks Evan!

I think a lot of people who don't normally watch these kind of films will find this really intriguing, I hope so anyway :)

More updates to come soon!

I would go watch this movie, whether a chick flick, or a lovey dovey romance, because of the trailer. Just because of the trailer. They were smart to make the lead a fireman, which adds action to the drama, increasing the number of audiences.

Study the F*** out of that trailer, and reshape your teaser, and keep it in mind for your real trailer :)!

Remember to keep the things out that will turn OFF your future audience

I can't go into detail right now, gotta go run a few errands but here is what I can give you:

the "teaser" is too long.

remember a teaser is just suppose to drop us the idea of your film
to me it was
"Wife goes missing, for we don't know how many years, then son finds her, what the hell she is not dead"

there is your teaser. Sprinkle one or two things in there, thats it.
Don't show more than that

To me, the part where he says "I can't be with my wife (or something like this) because of the religion?!?!"
that was deal breaker, and because of that I (just me) would not go see the movie.
It's good to have it in your movie, but not in your trailer. Your audience might think "Ugh it's just about them dealing with their religion" and not watch it.

Put yourself in your audiences shoes, and take out the parts that would be deal breakers for you, and keep your teaser idea, because that is all you need. Give people a little bit of the main story, then close the blinds, so they are inclined to find out more.

I felt like your teaser trailer poured me the whole story, gave me nothing to look forward to, and therefore would not make me want to watch it.

You'll find a lot of people who don't see films because they feel that the trailer just gave too much that they felt like they knew everything that was going to happen, and rather save their 9 bucks for another movie.

Sorry to make it so long
point is, work on your teaser trailer, the story seems amazing, the acting seems like it's there too, just don't drag it for so long. 30 seconds for teaser, 1 min 30 for trailer, and you'll get 4x the amount of people interested that will watch it.

People love being teased, give me a small taste to keep them wanting for more.
COngrats on finishing (it's almost done with post right?) a feature, something many of us dream of but are afraid to try. That sets you years away in the EXPERIENCE and HAVING HUGE BALLS department than most of us :)

Charlie.

I do not want to be defensive about anything you said, as I think everyone has a subjective opinion of things, and some things work for some and just don't for others.... here are some comments regarding your thoughts.

Charlie.

That is all setup. And hopefully an intriguing one at that. Also, you'll see (or hear) that Jeff says she's been missing 10 years.

To me, the part where he says "I can't be with my wife (or something like this) because of the religion?!?!"

This is one of, if not the major conflict of the film, and actually we don't give away a lot of what comes after that, which is probably half of the film.

I appreciate you taking the time to watch it, and give some comments. So far the teaser has opened up HUGE doors for the film, including being a tool to get signed by Carmel Entertainment, and hopefully more to come soon :)

Thanks again!

Fun fact....

The first week (5 days) of shooting we shot a whopping 43 pages of script, including the two most intense ending scenes. And the opening scene, which was also quite intense.

I agree that scene in the trailer was a deal-breaker for myself, and came off kind of soap-y. However, the movie looks great. It would be something I rented/buy in the store rather than watch on the big screen. Don't take this the wrong way though, I generally only see big movies in theaters. Action movies mostly. I can't watch a "thinking" movie with people CHOMPING in my ear. AUGHHH.

Ahhh I see

after looking at the carmel entertainment website
looking at some of their films along with yours (congratulations!!!!!)
I read the synopsis, and at the end
"Jeff is forced to wrestle with forgiveness, reconciliation, and the irresistible grace of God."
And thought OOOh
Now i understand it a bit more

:) I'm glad you got a deal with carmel
what kind of deal is it?
Are they distributing it? or backing you up?
Sorry if this was covered in the thread :$!!!!

Coming from a different angle... if this has been covered please forgive me.... but its because of the market you're going for is why I'm asking...

She's been gone for 10 years... been a Christian for 3 years now...

My only thought is I want to know why she hasn't looked for her child and husband.

Its on the webpage under about this film... why... but I like a hint of that in the trailer...

Like I said... not sure if its been covered... other than that you can see why it sold... good production values... acting... else... and a good trailer... except for my little idea...

I showed it to my sister... she thought at first the mother died... but being a woman... she feels sorry for the other woman...

Hm. well, that is all explained in the film, but again when doing a trailer you have to make choices of what stays and goes, it's pretty tough... this will NOT be the theatrical trailer, I can assure you that, but thanks for the comments there.
