"Corrado" - A production blog

I knew this was going on for some time, but now it's official (From the Hollywood Reporter):

"Tom Sizemore has joined Starz's drama series "Crash" as a recurring.
"Crash," from Lionsgate, is a 13-episode series featuring a different cast of characters than the film.
Sizemore, managed by Evolution, will play Detective Adrian Cooper whose unorthodox measures wreak havoc when he investigates a police-involved shooting."

This is a huge deal for Tom...it seems like when you pick up an actor on the downturn you make a bet. I'm glad that he's on his way up again seeing as we have a good relationship, and he's in my next film.

News like this drives down IMDB scores and will ultimately benefit Corrado, in which he has a major role. Incidentally, Paul Haggis hooked Tom up with this role!

You don't kick a guy to the curb who has been in a ditch, you help him out!

Hollywierd is always the last people / place to figure this out. (Thread owner is an exception:))

Adam,

This is most excellent news!

It's really good to hear this!

I definitely have to agree with this. The entertainment industry is bloated and self indulgent, gotta trim the fat and be smart and bust ass.

"Bloated and self indulgent"? It may seem that way from your perspective, but the fact is there's actually a very good reason for 95% of what seems like bloated waste. It all comes down to "time is money". Yeah, on a big set, there are a lot of people sitting around doing nothing. But the point is that those people are there ready to go on a moment's notice if they're needed. Are they being paid to do nothing? Sure. But on a big production, it's a hell of a lot cheaper to pay that than to pay everyone else to sit around and do nothing when you have to halt production for some asinine reason. So what you say is really only half true.

Doug has just pointed out a critical lesson I learned when filming Corrado. Don't deviate from the methods tried and true in Hollywood. There's a reason they've been doing it that way for a hundred years.

I can make their methods better, and refine and hone them, but the backbone of the way we do things is still more or less the established norm.

just saw some sweet sizemore this weekend in Devil In A Blue Dress

Ha! cool.

I just saw Sizemore this weekend - in person. He's going away for another week to do Crash and he wanted to see some clips of the movie, so I showed them to him.

What did he think?

Well it's interesting. I've been keeping all of the footage close to my chest. Real close.

None of the main characters save Candace have seen any footage at all except my small demo wannabe trailer thingee I made a couple months ago.

So yesterday I took 3 scenes Tom was in over to his place - he couldn't stand it any longer - and I showed them to him. He was blown away. He loved it. He thought we all did a great job.

Today we did our ADR session at the post audio guy's place. Johnny was there, Edo was there, as well as one other smaller actor. Besides recording the ADR stuff, Johnny laid down all of the voice over stuff you read in the script. It rocked.

They also got to see some of the footage from the movie, and even though they were done the ADR they hung around to check out more of it like kids!

I asked Johnny what he thought - "I'm surprised" he said. He couldn't believe how well it came out. He seemed to be relieved as well!

I asked him how often he hated the work he was in. He mentioned his last TV movie he was in "Ring of Death" He said from the moment he saw a clip of it, he hated everything about it including his performance.

He loved Corrado though, and later sent a text telling me how proud he was of me and the film.

It feels good to have the backing of my cast, and their approval of the project, which doesn't come automatically. There's a lot riding on Corrado, especially for the actors that are in it.

No one wants an embarrassment!

I'm like a proud father today!

Yeah, he's going to be there weekly until Oct 15th for the Crash thing, six episodes. How random you saw him, especially since he changed his flight at the last minute to the later one - you caught him by chance!

A good friend of mine is the post coordinator on Crash. They were having no end of problems getting dailies back to L.A. and so forth early in the show, hopefully everything's running smoother by now.

Adam, glad Tom liked the stuff! That's ALWAYS super encouraging :) I remember showing a few of the cast members some selected scenes of NGL...

They wanted to see the whole thing, lol... always great to hear that!

Now I know Kent is part of this project, so he's biased, but still, look at what this Emmy winning sound designer said about this project recently in an e-mail to a potential assistant sound editor:

"Jeremy - I'm not sure exactly how, but we will make this worth your while. And believe me, this film is worth it - a stunningly well made Indie film, better than "Pulp Fiction" and funnier, in a dark way."

I was pretty blown away by that statement - not sure I believe it myself but still flattered.
