I recently read about a scientific study that proved sitting down puts your body in a fat conserving mode and prevents you from losing weight. Basically, even if you exercised one hour a day, that benefit could be undone by three hours of sitting or lying down.

This was bad news for me as an editor as I routinely sit 8-10 hours a day so I decided to take action. I remember reading that Walter Murch prefers editing in an upright position so I decided to experiment and raise my desk to a standing position. I built a platform to put my desk on and am currently typing and working standing up.
I expect this to be difficult for the next few days but hopefully my body will adjust and I'll lose a few pounds. According to my calculations I should burn about 600 extra calories a day working this way.
