The end of 35mm adapers and hv20s....

is did u actually it slow down the footage by 50% or jst added those extras frames? Isnt 50% a little to choppy? Also the test you did kinda looks like 29.97 or somthing... look like video.

don't know what you say by video look, the look isn't important anyway
it's 50% slower played back at 24fps, so you see it moving in slowmotion, like when you shoot high fps but play back at normal frame rate

no choppy here :D
choppy is when you retime in after effects, that's different

That one doesn't give the possibility to measure shutter speed though. And since mine would be controlled with a CPU, different intensities could be saved in memory. It would also be possible to have different profiles that fits different lenses or different apertures on every lens.

Good idea ando, a piezo buzzer or similar can be added as well. Then it will also serve as a tool to sync audio.
If that works, I'll buy one from you. :D I was going to suggest a cute little lcd so you know what preset you are at, but that would mean you need some sort of control surface to name the presets as well... and it should still be portable so, eh. Awesome idea though.

Truly amazing. That this comparison can even be made... the D90 has video almost as an afterthought and should have looked like rubbish by comparison, yet it looks better to me in around 1/3rd of the shots.

If the shots are locked down or fairly stable otherwise the CMOS Monster raises it's ugly jelly like head.

I can't wait to get mine.

I plan on at least using 2 if not 3.

But, I don't want to go to crazy because the D3X and D300X will almost certainly have video! :)

it be more practical to get a real camcorder like sony EX-1 than a D3X since they'd cost about the same.

and the two sticking points:

a) it will be at least a 18 months down the road before video mode on DSLR's have any sort of reliability like current cam corders (ie: the heat issues from leaving the sensors on)..
b) how will nikon introduce more cpu power in the camera to do true 1080 encoding on the fly.

interesting times up ahead ;)

Where's your source? =P

If the video compression on the newer DLSRs is better, or Canon offers up somethin' with the knowledge they have backin' the mode... interchangable lenses? small package?

I don't think gettin' an EX-1 would be such an obvious choice over that.

i'd really like a test of color correction

compare the adjustments of d90's picture controls to any camcorder's adjustments or post adjustments
i would be very surprised if d90 doesn't look a lot better since it's changes the stuff before compression
and like kholi said the dynamic range seems a lot better. the jpeg compression really limits the sensor's output at this moment. a raw type of video would be required in the future.

and you know what would be a possible upgrade in the future? all cameras starting with d300 remove chromatic aberrations from jpegs. now you know what i'm thinking...

don't need no stinkin' source ;)

real world testing of live view on d300 revealed major problems.. it was the stop motion animators that torture tested live view (into something it was never designed to do; continuous usage). Canon's 40d a fared a little better but the heating issue is real. each generation of video dslr will get better and approach camcorder reliability.

i highly doubt a flagship camera like the D3X will include video...
on a pro photoshoot (where it costs on upwards of 7K+ (just for talent and makeup crew, let alone the set), dslr's are finicky and sometimes miss behave due to complexity.. thus why people think adding video detracts from the engineers focus on improving robustness and less prone to malfunctions in real world situations.

i still speculate (and we'll know more by christmas) that nikon will introduce an intermediary price point camera with slighly better video, (between the d3x and d90)..

the soccer moms and dentists with too much money won't shell out 2K for a camera when a 1K will do enough,

the replacement for the d300 is supposed to be the d800 which supposedly has a december announcement (and 2009 ship date).. i suspect we'll see better video since there is more horse power.

also, nobody has mentioned how the d200 and up class camera have user programmable profiles. You can store 5 profiles: each with least 20-30 critical shooting parameters. that you can instanenously switch with the press of one button between multiple manual configs.

that is when i speculate we get what we all wished the d90 was.
or maybe sooner like next week's canon announcement. ;)

d800 will be a full frame camera like d700 is
d300's replacement will be 1.5x crop factor, it won't be named d800

d200 can store 4 camera settings and 4 image settings (profiles) so you basically get 4 types of camera body and 4 types of "film"
this feature isn't available on d80 that's why you don't see it on d90 either.

don't know about the future nikon plans but it would be a mistake not to put a better video on a higher price camera with faster cmos, more internal memory and much faster cpu (like d300). it'll still be 2x cheaper than any possible canon dslr with video in the next 12-18 months

no to mention canon's picture controls don't feature curves unless you buy a 1d or 1ds.
