Title for a film.

I'm shooting a movie right now that I hope to land in some festivals or screenings, and I was wondering if it's okay to use a title that has already been used by another movie. I know there are title repeats in many hollywood productions, but I'm curious as to the legalities of doing so.

Yeah for the title, you can pretty much use anything you like.

But if you want to stand out and not be compared, maybe something new or different.

What is the title?

I'd stay away from something so specific. If it were "Killing Time" or "Death Watch" or "Time's Up" or something like that, maybe... but that was a big novel and and even bigger movie - anyone who heard your title would be hard-pressed not to think of the Matthew McConaughey film.

Yea a Time to Kill is not only a very popular movie but a very popular book, i would stay away from it.

Like others have said if it was a more generic type title then copying is fine but atleast imo a time to kill is one you probably dont want to copy.

Its a great title though no doubt about that.

Ya I agree. I didn't realize that it was already a movie when i initially chose the title. I actually chose it based on a simpsons episode when some character titles his painting "a time to kill" and its of rabbits and rainbows and such haha.

Thanks for the input. I'll keep on brainstorming.

Yeah, it is quite specific. Maybe something different, I am sure you can think of another.

My suggestion "The Opposite of a Time Not To Murder" - a bit lengthy, but overall quite worth it.

For any who can't tell, that was a joke. Carry on...

Give us a quick break down of the story and maybe we can suggest something that fits.

A time for Justice/revenge/hate/murder......

The movie is more or less a spoof of Tom Clancy's Novels such as Patriot Games, and Rainbow Six. It is very funny, but still has the super serious badass protagonist. While fighting off laughter during a shoot, one of the production assistants said, "There is nothing modest about this movie."

Help me out. I want it to sound brutally violent/badass, but to the point that it's just ridiculous.
