Our Last Night Music Video

I like the video!
How many takes? Which settings? I smell a lot of rotoscoping to single out the color on the people? :)

we did alot of takes since it was only a performance video, but we had two cameras

i did no rotoscoping at all. all the color correction was done in Color. i dont even know how to rotoscope :)

Hey Danny,

That was great! You guys are really coming into your own style with the performance videos. I'd be very interested in watching you guys operate the camera, you have a really great energy that matches the song/edit.

Do you find operating the RED a little more sluggish? I did with the last video I did...the HVX, even with a Mini35 is pretty light. When you get to 35mm videos you guys are going to like the Arri 235, its super durable and light for a 35mm camera.

Also, the color correct is great. Semi-reminds me of "O Brother" where Deakins did a DI to switch the green leaves to a brown/yellow desaturated look.

Are most of your shoots one day?

Great job on the video!

Matt

Thanks matt,

depends on the shoot. lately our shoots have been building sets so we try to have one day pre-light and one day shoot. most are one day shooting though. every once in a while we shoot 2 but budget has to be available to do that as it gets costly as im sure you're well aware.

The red is heavy, but i much prefer shooting that over the HVX anyday. you can only really push the hvx so far. love the latitude you get from the red as far as colorspace

keep in touch! your new work is superb.

Sweeeeet video. What water housing unit did you guys use?

we used the Epic, which is just a tube basically. no bells or whistles. you have to have your iris, focus, etc all set before you put it inside of the housing because you have no control over the camara's controls once inside. it was interesting, but worked decent

Great concept!
And creative variation of the Pleasantville effect, gives the video a nice edge!
Do you already have a video shot on the RED? When did you "upgrade"?

yea we've shot alot on the Red

(Bayside, Jet Black Stare, The Devil Wears Prada, Since October, NGK Spots, HM Magazine Spots, etc) - check em out on our site if you'd like

I checked out the Epic website and saw the tube... how did you go about framing everything? Or was it more guess work than anything?

we could still utilize the LCD while in the tube, you just have to flip it and have mirroring on.
