The end of 35mm adapers and hv20s....

I believe Nikon used CCD chips instead of CMOS in their SLR cameras until their released the D300 about one year ago. If only they had stuck with that development...

I don't think this is the place for a CMOS vs CCD debate. Nikon would have good reason to pick CMOS, same as RED and everyone else switching. Fact is that we are stuck with it, so lets make the most of it.

They used a 12mp CMOS in the D2x from 2004 then went back to CCD in the D200/D80 in 2006. Then back to CMOS in the D300/D3 in 2007.

The D2X had a CMOS sensor that was first developed by Sony for their R1 system, the D200/D80 is from the Sony A100 sensor, and the D300 is from the same sensor used by Sony in their A700.

Most of the recent APSC sensor cameras developed by Nikon rely on sensors developed by Sony, and it looks like they are focusing strongly on CMOS.

I couldn't get the D90 to mount in OS X. How are you guys doing it?

I can never get a Nikon or Canon to mount on a mac, card reader always seems to be faster, though. No card reader?

Exploring different noise reduction levels/settings? This is great to hear...

I have a card reader. Just wished it was straight forward from the camera. my D70, if I remember right, mounted just fine. Hmmm.

Is it, perhaps, a discrepancy with SDHC modules versus CF?

For some unknown reason, Nikon appears to be dropping mass storage support in their latest releases. I have NO idea why. This was one advantage they had over Canon for quite a few years.

I've read the comments too. However, the overlays are on the top and bottom and if the output is cropped at 2.35:1 then the overlays are removed. Also, removing the overlays is a matter of a simple firmware fix from Nikon.
The reason why we are all keen on the HDMI output is that There Is None Yet. Thus far we have lots of sample footage but no one has an uncompressed HDMI screen grab for an unbiased overview

dont take my word for it but elswhere in this thread are many comments on very poor hdmi output(data overlays etc) only really any good for focus.

I think this thread is way too long now and there should be a seperate section for d90 camera, settings, lens etc.

I posted some clips on Vimeo. The dancing shots I could not focus at all as the girls and the instructor moved too much but I was really experimenting to try to control the skew as much as possible while hand holding the camera and having all that movement to follow. The glass bottle one I was using the tripod. You can see wobbling when I zoomed in but then the image stabilizes. Let me know what you think please.

Lens kit. Settings: Picture Control>Standard White balance> Manual ISO>(if it really was working, who knows for sure)>manual Lo 0.3 Color space>Adobe RGB High ISO NR>High.
I am imagining, as my brain slowly fries while trying to figure out this camera, the skew situation as if I was holding a plate of jello with my two hands and moving it around trying to steady the jello straight as I do this. What? I don't know if this makes any sense but the image feels as if you could make it float along as you pan. If you push it too quick or hard it will skew, if you move the top and bottom of the camera up and down suddenly it wobbles. Moving a plate of jello in my hands, what the heck? When I put it in the tripod I could just go to the refrigerator and EAT some jello!

The noise in the second video pretty much describes how the ISO works: does not.

The first one is decently clean, aside from that. I've been experimenting, today, with the Picture Controls and they work quite well. Next up is Nikon Console curves right into ye ol' D90.

And, hopefully, something serious... no subjects to shoot at the moment.

Nah, sadly. It's just the ISO wantin' to have fun. =( Trust me, I'm disheartened by it but after yesterday I'm kinda over it and just wanting to get into the final stages of the video mode so that I can do something with it.

I've got a music video coming up next monday, I think i'm going to side-by-side the D90 with the RED for some "creative" shots since the final product is more than likely web/DVD.
