YES!! I finally got a DVX100A!!!! Im sooo freaking happy. Now I can discuss properly. Anyone feel like filling me in on new things that I should add/subtract/do to my camera?? Let me know whats up! Thanks!

Congrats! Best thing you can do is learn the camera, don't be afraid to experiment & go shoot, shoot, shoot.

...then, I'd get a good shotgun mic...

Congrats! Zaza is right. Learn the camera by shooting. Try all the scene files, play with the settings. You can talk into the on-board mic while shooting to remind yourself what the settings are when your review the footage.

And have fun.

Sweet deal, of course! Ive been working with a JVC GZ-HD7 and I love it!! I have nothing bad to say about the GZ-HD7 unlike most other owners, they just dont know how to use it. Anyways, Ive been working with that Cam and I wanted to expand my collection and I searched craigslist for different cams and came upon someone upgrading to an HVX and selling his DVX for $800. CRAZY!! So, hopefully ill get it Friday/Saturday and Im gonna go play with it! Question though...is necessary to use tape? Can I record directly to a HDD or through FCP capture? Let me know, thanks!

***Also! I kept reading that its better to use the same tapes originally used on the Cam, is that true? Why? I also heard if I use a head cleaner tape or whatever, THEN I can switch and use my own tapes. Whats the deal with that?? Thanks!

there are different types of lubrication on each of the tapes, and they dont mix well. it will shorten your heads life span.
so stick with one type of tape, and clean the heads before you put in a fresh tape.

i suggest sony premiums, or panasonic tapes.

question- do panasonic tapes work better in a dvx than sony premiums?
because most people prefer premiums, but the dvx manual says to use panasonic tapes.

is that just to sell more of their own items, or are those tapes actually more compatible to the dvx?

The GreenTundra, with all due respect, cleaning the heads every time you add a new tape is a little much. As long as you use the same type of tape each time (most def. don't just buy the cheapest tapes at walmart), you only need to clean the heads if you start having problems. DV head cleaning tapes are VERY tough on the heads and the more you use them over time, the quicker your heads will be worn away. This info. was told to me from a friend who has been broadcast technician for just under 40 years. It is best to order master tapes and only use that kind of tape once you make your decision. Good luck.

i didnt mean clean them after ever tape
that would be bad for your camera over time
just once when you get it

then stick with one kind of tape
