The end of 35mm adapers and hv20s....

Kholi, when finished, you right click on the file and click "share" then copy the link and...well, you'll probably figure it out from there

I curious to know much battery power shooting in video mode eats up, and also whether you can shoot a 5 minute clip right after another 5 minute clip finished..

Yeah, you can shoot another 5 right after another 5 so long as you have enough card space. Also, I've been messin' around with it since the battery charged about five hours ago or a lil' less and it's been fine.

I would say you could get a fair amount of time shootin' stills and video on the included battery. I will be, however, gettin' a second.

Car3o -- Video's uploadin'. Gonna take a bit but it's on its way.

What is the degree that A-priority works to? Nikon lead me to believe that you can select wide open to f/8 and it will stay that way for the duration of your clip. Is this not true?

What if you set white balance to something static? I'm just trying to get a feel for how much the photo settings effect the video.

Also, if you go to snap a picture while making a movie, generally what is your take on this for speed and functionality? And does it end your clip putting you back in regular LV mode?

The Aperture works in Manual and A mode, actually. That's what I was seeing the first time, and I thought it was the shutter. So you can change the camera's apeture or F-Stop and it'll stick with the video. What you HAVE to do though is:

a) Exit LV mode
b) Set Aperture/ F-Stop
c) re-enter LV mode and then it'll be applied to the video
d) jump through flaming hoop

So here's what it looks like so far-

-- AE-L / HV20 Hack your Shutter
-- Use Aperture adjustments to further Control Light
-- Use Exposure Adjustments with PLAY BUTTON + Arrow method

Kholi, please stay up all night and study hard, so you will have THE OFFICIAL full report in the morning. I am sure you will find all the hidden secrets and apply all the workaround techniques by then.

Yeah, I'm gonna be up all night for sure messin' around with it. No problemo. Hopefully I'll have some sort'a solid info on the whole exposure/shutter/aperture thing.

Ok. I tried this in my D40X and worked for exposure lock choosin1/50 shutter speed. I don't know if it will work with the movie mode there but who knows. First get it into Manual mode on the dial on top and set the shutter speed to desired setting then jump to the S setting, shutter prioty, on then point the camera and get the f stop reading then lock it. And who knows what will happen then.
I guess you can do this exposure changes right on live view because the camera takes still shots looking at the same screen.

Have any of you guys tried the Singh-Ray Vari ND? That might work really well to control shutter. It's basically an adjustable ND filter that sits in front of the lens. Gives you 8 stop range. I have one and plan to use it with the d90 when it gets here to Finland.
Do a google search of Vari ND and tell me if you think this might solve the problem.

Back again! So if you can do this in Av mode...What happens if you set the shutter in Tv mode and then use a manual nikon lens?:Drogar-Smoke(DBG):

it's so funny that this thread seems to be the bread and butter for the d90 than any other thread i go to. dvinfo is in the dark, reduser not a clue, cinetography are guys who are old school and anything digital kind of sucks(not everyone) and here dvxuser has at least 4guys working around the clock to make sure we get every detail there is.....

that's cool stuff. and new people keep coming everyday. should help the ad revenue

and hunter i wanted to ask what matte box and rails was that you had in your setup with your dslr?

Tell ya what,

The manual has very little information, next to none on the actual D-Movie stuff. For Nikon to be toutin' it like they are, you would expect to have a manual with plenty of information on what effects what as far as the movie mode goes. Just about NOTHING.

Way to go, Nikon.

Kholi, thats maybe because the Gods have it that you write the book! Did you try my earlier suggestion? Set shutter in M, go to S read automatic Aperure, lock everything then go to video?

I did. And, for a second I thought it worked but it didn't.

Also, I was wrong about the Play Button thing. (of course) It's just adjusting the screen brightness and I'm a tard.

This Camera's video mode is thoroughly confusing.
