The end of 35mm adapers and hv20s....

So pretty much reporting everything that Kholi has been saying. The readings on the live view don't seem to be for what the movie is recording.

Aperture control with manual lenses. Iso through camera. But I dont know I can't figure out what the camera is really recording the movie. My friend is suggesting to do a lighting setup and use a light meter with the same iso as the camera then get it to lock on a certain light source.

Another little annoying this is the hdmi connection is a small hdmi, not the normal standard size for home compenents.

more laters.

ACTUALLY CONFIRMED:

Our lose theory (Texanite's and my own) is right. I just pointed the camera at the Computer LCD and the Shutter speed shot up. Locked it after that and I've got a spastic shutter.

Then, pointed it beneath the desk and locked it and now I've got a normal looking 1/48ish.

After that, You can hold the play button down and adjust "exposure".

Hopefully someone else can backtrack this for me.

Alright. As far as VR goes... err... it actually makes the rolling shutter better. Because it's stabilizing the camera through it's voodoo magic.

Uhm tell me about it. I thought VR would be a big no no. I should have broken out the 18-105 sooner?

A firmware update should DEFINITELY fix the shutter thing, though. AE-L is essentially shutter-lock, that's what it's function is: to lock the shutter down. So, the Auto Exposure is the camera adjusting the incoming light through the actual shutter while in video mode.

You get a super bright source, activate AE-L, then you can control the Exposure with the Play button. It's weird, but it works. I'm doing it right now.

No other way, that I can see, to dial in a shutter though. So it's like you'll need more HV20 hack to work this thing properly.

Well I can tell you this. Nikon is the company you want if adding features/functionality in firmware is what we need. They've done it in the past many, many times and if you guys speak loud enough, they'll do it again.

Exposure lock locks everything, though it appears that you can adjust ISO while shooting. What button do you mean by "play button?" The image review button on the top left of the back of the body?

Does the d90 have a dof preview button? What if you pressed that and the AE-L button?

Does have DOF preview in Aperture Priority, does not do what we want it to do in conjunction with anything.

I would be very happy if there's a way to change shutter and I just don't see it. Right now, I can see an HV20 hack bein' quite the popular thing amongst people tryin' to shoot professional lookin' stuff with this thing.

Also, the Camera body gets QUITE warm on the right side and bottom. Not a bad thing, just a note.

It "Sorta" locks everything... but.... In LV mode it literally locks the auto adjustment. Which I'm going to stop calling Auto Exposure because it's actually Auto Shutter to Adjust Exposure more accurately. Once you do that, you can hold down the PLAY BUTTON (triangle button) And press the up or down arrow to adjust actual Exposure.

The AE-L is shutter lock.

You can adjust ISO, right now I'm set at 200.

Kholie, you still got the Pm option

Let's do it. About to upload to your server now.

Kev -- It works to a degree. It actually auto-adjusts White Balance etc. But, it does nothing as far as the video goes.

For now, I'm resignin' the Shutter Control to the HV20 hack/trick. Which isn't a deal-breaker for me now that I think about it. Getting it to a 1/48ish shutter is quite easy. Slower shutter? Point it into the shadows and you got a slow shutter.

Adjust with the exposure from there, use manual lenses or Auto Lenses with a Manual/Auto Switch. Fin.

What is the degree that A-priority works to? Nikon lead me to believe that you can select wide open to f/8 and it will stay that way for the duration of your clip. Is this not true?

What if you set white balance to something static? I'm just trying to get a feel for how much the photo settings effect the video.

Also, if you go to snap a picture while making a movie, generally what is your take on this for speed and functionality? And does it end your clip putting you back in regular LV mode?
