What's the best format when rendering a full quality movie?

Hi everyone,

I am using Final Cut and I am not sure what is the best quality in all the formats or codecs when rendering a movie. I usually use the H.263 (not sure the number) and the quality is good.

Now, is there any other way to get mode quality in my HD movies? If i want to broadcast the videos, what's the best set up? I already try DVC Pro, HDV, HD and it seems H.263's quality is better among those.

Hope you can help, as usual.

Thanks for your time,

C

If you want to broadcast... you'll need to get the specs from the people who will be broadcasting it.

Maybe they want:

Beta
DigiBeta
DVCPro HD
DVD
MiniDV

Who knows!!

The question is what the broadcasters require you to deliver your footage in.

Is it betacam digibeta, DVCProHD, HDV, DVD or NTSC DV?

and what is a "virtual format?"

I am going to re formulate the question...

When exporting a movie in FCP, what's the best setting to get the highest quality in the final movie?
I use H.263 but I am not sure if that is better quality than for example mpeg4, etc.

Thanks.

The BEST quality would be the quality you edited with...

Shane's Stock Answer #3: How to output lossless Quicktime movies

To export your project so there is no loss in quality, simply go to the File Menu and select EXPORT>QUICKTIME MOVIE. Not Quicktime Conversion, for this will compress the footage. Make sure the settings match your timeline settings, make it self contained, do NOT recompress the footage, and you are set.

But the Capt. is right. What is the intent of this final product? Web? TV? Film? First you need to determine what you want to do with this final product.

Just so I know what would be a reason to RECOMPRESS footage? Does this have to do with if you want to edit with some footage that is compressed into a mpeg-2 file. Do you need to uncompress it before you can edit and then after editing Recompress it??

I never used the recompress footage option so I am just asking...
