The end of 35mm adapers and hv20s....

Hunter!!!! I hope it locks the whole thing or we would really go crazy!

Pappas, I am getting the fastes SDs I can get my hands on. I was just curious as it would affect the image because I suspect some of that wobbly footage may have been shot with slow cards.

I consider the main camera the one revealed in the shot filming the rotating platform. The point is, in all that product shot with dramatic shifts of
brightness and darkness that D90 never changed exposure, unlike the one that was the camera to film the LCD screen on tilt up to the camera under lights.

Pretty self explanatory..........

Look at the commercial for yourself.

watch the seventh shot, showing the rear of the camera. exposure jumps at least twice.

So let me get this strait: When you press the AE-L button, you not only lock the exposure, but also the "Auto Gain"?

You can lock ISO/ASA in the menus to auto or a giving setting or selectable All the DSLRs I have owned did this one way or another.

The gain they refer to is all exposure controls that the camera is assigned to control you set it to do. If you lock it, it's locked until you tap it again. If it's in hold you need to hold the button down or it just keeps changing.

However all this is moot now. The D90 can go full manual. IMO this case is closed on this exposure lock. It's been confirmed. Now is it waterproof, I need to know. Just kidding....

Now the BiG question, I wonder who will make the first porn film with it. I couldn't resist..... :-)

The point is you can lock this camera up to full manual if you want. The FUD on the LOCK or NO LOCK should be put to rest. It's now entering FUD status if this misinformation keeps being ported around when the the truth is now known by everyone.

This is official stance.

Nikon's reply:

HI

First, while the D90 offers the amazing ability to shoot video it is not a full-featured video camera and does lack some of the controls of a dedicated video camera.

The D90 uses an Auto Gain feature to change the exposure as the lighting changes, but the exposure can be locked using the "AE Lock" button which has several modes. In one mode you push and hold the button to lock exposure or you can set the button to lock when pressed until it's pressed again.

Hope this helps.

Like the man said, hope this helps!

How would a slow SD card cause visual distortion ?

I want to believe it, pappas. but i need to see it with my own eyes first. even your example of a camera supposedly locked in manual has exposure jumps (seventh shot of the nikon commercial for example). whether its ISO jumping or AutoGain, i don't care. it is the single most offending aspect of the image's shortcomings. and i will find out for myself when i march into circuit city on sunday.

SD cards are so cheap!

Over at tigerdirect.com there are fast SDHC 16GB cards with readers on sale for $59.99! They are almost disposable at that price!

I just found more 16GB on Amazon for $38.96! And to think panasonic has been throwing these into a PCMCIA housing with a raid controller for how much?

Ah I see, the camera is using autogain circuits to adjust the exposure, at leasts thats my understanding from the Nikon rep..

so wouldn't that mean one would have to swith off autogain?

Hi there,
Lockable exposure or not, doesn't matter now. Clearly the revolution is absolutely here. Which got me thinking: The Canon 50d will have an hdmi out, so I could connect some kind of external hd recorder for better compression right?

I currently own the 40d and I checked:
Yes the exposure is lockable and fully manually adjustable on my Canon.
Is there an hdmi out? no, but wait, there's a video out :P hehe
Welcome to sd filmlookworld. (Has anybody done that already?)

So I hooked the 40d up to my old xm2 and recorded some footage of my cat showing off her powers! Unfortunately I haven't found a way to erase that honky centersquare.

I'd say, seeing what's coming, we've got to hurry and shoot something with the new dslr technology that's going to fall in our laps the next couple of months, before everybody starts doing it!!!

Cheers!
