Thanks guys. Mike and I are wrapping up next week and happy with what we are getting. Its been great working next to him through out this movie and we have had a blast. The rest of the people have been great and we have had ZERO arguments so far. This Sunday will be crunched with a lot of scenes so hopefully everyone can hold up including the little girl. She has been a trooper through out this whole thing. If we get through Sunday the rest will be gravy. They did a 10 minute take though all in one shot and nailed it both times so I think we should be good to go.
The 10 minute take. I had a 1k and 650 with diffusion above them, a 300 to the right to hilite the cabinets, a 150 hitting the table from the lower left to give a little texture to the flat beige color, a 300 to the left for hair lights on the older guy and also some fill on the couple. Right behind them was the big windows so I couldn't hilite them. The windows are too high to light from outside.
punch ins from that take
For this shot I used the same lighting but pulled a 300 to shoot on the brown wall to give it some texture by throwing a slight diagonal line through it.
Used natural light from the windows with a 300 for inside hilites.
Whew, tomorrow is our last official working day on this project and its feeling... kind of sad. Almost like the last day of summer camp kind of thing. We were all sitting there talking about how we wished we had another to shoot right away and when can everyone get together again.
On another note, this lady with "connections" came down to take pictures and talk to us a little. Mike asked what did she do and she just said I'm in the stock market and I make connections in a vague kind of way. Don't know what that was about but she came on one of the most relaxed days and we were just chillin pushing a dolly back and forth.
Now that I have a little time again I will go back and kind of talk about some of the shots kind of like Hudson does on his blog. I like how he does that shot break down thing and while most of the shots don't have complex motivations there are some that do. Like today we were doing this shot where its kind of implied that the main character is being led off by an angel into a new life but in reality hes just talking to a man outside his house. So I got the idea of what if when they left the the scene, the man standing holds his hand out to help the other guy get off the rock he is sitting on and when the other guy takes it, hold for a second before getting up to kind of mimic this picture.
I thought it was a brilliant little subtly that has sooo much meaning to it. The hard part was getting it to work in a scene that was all one take but we got it in about 9 takes and 2 cans of bug spray later.
I must have sprayed myself 4 times today and still got eaten. Mike caught a bad one right in the middle of his forehead while shooting a hand held so he couldn't smack it. DOH!!!
ITS A WRAP!!!
Just finished the last day out and then went for some drinks to top it off. Tomorrow just need to get one shot but then thats it, back to NY. Need to crash and get some sleep finally. Hey Mike, everyone missed you on the set today.
Its in post now and I think is slated to be finished in March the latest but I will definitely update this as things go along. I still have more shots from the last few days to post too plus I want to go through some of the thinking in some of the shots.
Here is that shot with the guys touching hands like the painting.
Mike was on a 25 foot ladder for this little shot. VERY scary looking from the ground I should have a BTS of this somewhere.
These are for the surreal part of the film. We exposed for the outside and left the faces dark knowing we are going to boost in post to bring the faces back and blow out the backgrounds with a white haze.
Hey man ! just wanted to say great looking stuff ! Glad have people in CT...were abouts were you shooting...sry i missed yah all or I would have come down and helped out.
