The end of 35mm adapers and hv20s....

I never say I didn't like. In fact I've been reading it everyday...but only one page in every 10. It's just that for new people coming into the thread for information it's simply absurd to go over 85 pages of asking 50 times if you can lock the exposure (can you ?? hahaha) when you can simply have things summarized directly on the beginning (like it was done in many other threads).

What ! This thing shoots video !!?? Wow ! Just WOW !!

Man, it would be incredible if it turned out the issues were due to the VR!

I wish that too but my mobile phone video mode looks exactly like the really bad examples of D90 rolling shutter - wobbly.

I still wonder why Ken Rockwell said good things about D90 movie mode, maybe to support his family or maybe it was really that great.

I think that if Canon wanted to they are in a better position to offer us what we really want, which seems to be either a better movie mode on a D-SLR or maybe an EOS mount, full frame HD video camera. My reasoning for this is that they already have experience with the sub $10,000 prosumer / indy filmmaker HD video market. Every HD camcorder they have offered so far does 1080i or 1080p. They already have their mitts into both HDV and AVC-HD.

This is also their problem.

They have an established camcorder business, to throw a cheap and good large sensor / SLR lens mountable, video recording device into the mix would create havoc and damage their numerous (16 different HD camera currently) camcorders sales.

Nikon have no camcorder business to consider, that's why I think they will get 2 or 3 more cameras (hopefully better) out before Canon are forced to react - and they will not react by putting large sensors and SLR lens mounts in their HV30 level cameras - they would more likely introduce these kinds of features in the high-end stuff first.

[/speculation]

I don't think that the D90's image would be as blocky or as oil painty as some have mentioned if it was able to do up to 24mbps AVC-HD.

Agreed.

****BTW a friend told me that the VR on the lenses are causing some of the issues we are seeing. Like with the train scene in Japan. It's just not intended for video ( the VR )....*******

I was about to say the same thing. Theres no way all these problems are just RS "jelly". It would be virtually unusable. I'm sure its the VR. You can get exactly the same effect with any OIS system. The clip in the train station with people walking in Japan shows the extent of the rolling shutter issues. All the other horrible wobblyness (with minimal camera movements) I'm convinced is down to the VR. No problem - older manual lenses will prob be the way to go anyway.

Has anyone noticed, in the Nikon Horse clip (at the end)...there are listed 6 lenses ,they have used to make the clip....and all of them are primes.

I also put my moneys on VR

"VR uses 2 sets of tiny gyroscopes, miniature versions of ones found in navigation equipments and advanced cars safety equipments, and to detect this type of slight rotation. The data from these gyros are fed into a small computer chip, which perform reacts to the data and sends out a series of instructions to a set of tiny motors. These motors move one element in the optical path slightly out of the optical axis, causing the lens to experience slight image shift. By causing the exactly right amount of image shift, image shift can precisely balance your pitching movements of your camera/lens combo."

Nikon may have a few more suprises in store at Photokina this month.

In July Nikon publicly stated that they would have 3 new DSLRs coming out before xmas - so we have the D90, that leaves 2 to go.

Rumors (Damn Rumors) are a new "Mirrorless" ultra quick, silent 24MP sony sensor D4 (D3x) possibly with a movie mode as well.

BTW. people who have preordered, are you 100% sure you will be getting yours on the 7th? its not going to be out in DK before the 18th :(

Maybe i will order from the US. Theres money to be saved, even after shipping costs. But then what if theres problems with the cam and i have to ship it all the way back. Argh..

In Canada, the first batch is supposed to hit the stores for the 16th.
although i'll be mighty pissed if it's the body+ kit lens package that only ships.

I want everyone to know that although I appear to be not posting on this thread right now - I am sat here with a cup of tea and a cheese sandwich updating the page every minute or so - I just didn't want anyone to think I was not pulling my weight.
