On Vimeo- Access Denied. I'm trying Youtube now!

You Tube worked - it's pretty cool. Student film? Slightly confusing in some areas, but considering everyone's age - not bad. I'd say next time, narrow in on your overall storytelling and "walk" your audience through the scenes. Next begin to focus more on your camera work with lighting. For outside you need a screen to block the sun OR you need a reflector to give your subject more light.

But all in all - good job.

Movie was more like 3 minutes

credits too long
narrative in beginning too long

But listen:
The narration, the way the movie was presented, from the titles, to the music, to the great way the guy gives the narration in the beginning, down to the way the thread is named, is what sold me your short film. It made it seem spectacular, even if for just a few minutes.

That's hard to do.
Looks like a good story

just too many friends in the movie.
That's all
and try not to widescreen it too much
it will scream amateur at one point

Putting your work on these board takes a lot of balls on its own.
Congrats on that too :)

I might post mine now

Vimeo link is fixed.

Yeah, we did have a small lighting kit, used for a few shots. But we weren't that experienced with it. The lighting could have been much better.

The vimeo/youtube vids are horizantally stretched a bit, the original aspect was 2:35

I originally planned on shooting a little something for opening credits, which weren't originally suppossed to be opening credits, just the intro to his monologue, but we didn't have the time.

Yeah, lol, its more like 3 minutes

> The DivX, I believe, is fixed now, too.

1) You need to be logged in to dload from Vimeo.
2) Those links work like tickets: they can be used only once and for a limited time, and probably only by the user who generated it (not sure about this one). So, direct linking won't work.

Hey there

Was thinking, figured some advice would help

Find your favorite movie, whether, ocean's 12 so on
Watch the whole film with no volume, and watch the shots.
Pay attention to which shots look more professional, pause, and try to remember.
You will get a lot better goodfellas a lot faster

When it comes to characters
Make every character, no matter what role they have, as unique as possible.
If they are boring, make them interestedly boring

When casting roles
have diversity
dufferent ages THIS ONE IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A nobody film, and someone who took some time planning.
different races
Different cultures, religions, styles

Hope it helps!

thanks. that helps a lot. i did that for half a movie once, but it was pirates of the caribbean so i don't know if that counts :P

any other comments

Nice work! It was a clever film ;)

Something neat I thought you could do would be to cut the music around 4:15, when the tourist loses and walks away. Then fade out, creating a false ending. Then silence.

...then you hear "But his play has one more act..." Music starts up again, maybe a little more exciting, like in the Ocean's Eleven montage, and the rest of the plot is revealed.

hmm, not a bad idea. the music itself in that part I did tell the composer to have an ocean's 11 feel actually. That's why its a bit more upbeat then the other parts.

surprised i didn't think of the music cutting part though, because I did want that to feel like the ending.

Keep the thread alive, the kid wants to have his stuff critiqued, god knows people don't post their own work because they are afraid of hard critiques.

FRESH MEAT RIGHT HERE!!! LOL.

It's a good film kid, film another the SECOND you feel you got enough advice on this one, I'd love to see you grow in skills and experience.

Not bad :-) Could be a lot better though, because the talent is there.

Reshoot it. Start the movie with the narration and end it with the narration.

In the beginning, do a montage of NYC streets with your hero in his element.

The middle, do the whole con game as professionally as you can.

End it with a whimsical flourish -- something like you did.

Good luck -- it's well-performed, great idea. Keep up the good work.

Yeah if I were to reshoot it (which I don't by the way, :P ) I would film something to put in the beginning, as the opening credit bit with the voice over does drag a bit. I'd also try and make the camera move a bit more to get a better feel of hte pace and the "rush" of the game.
