The end of 35mm adapers and hv20s....

Where I buy my cameras in New York you have up to 7 days to return the merchandise if you are not satisfied. That is plenty of time to check all the features. So why break my head worrying about exposure lock 'til then. But the thing is I'll make my investment back taking a few pictures with it, so I won't be returning it.

The main reason I went to the event was to confirm the exposure issue.

As long as I keep pushing the AE/AF button, it locks exposure.

As for putting up the footage, I would have to say, it is not something that is pleasing to see for I had only limited subject/angle/lens/lighting condition to shoot to and also was told not to shoot faces of people as much as possible. Also, I was not sure how to focus using LCD screen much, I mean, it looked focused but it was not as much.

Also, for the shot of clouded people from above, I was shooting it thorough building window which was thick and had some kind of smoke on it. So picture is not very clear but it shows the pixelated portions here and there.

I have said enough excuses. Now I am gonna try posting it.

It may take time for I never tried posting on Vimeo.

When I finish posting it, I will let you know.

It doesn't get any clearer than that.

Manual mode is that. Manual. You select it all. If it was doing that, I think we would have seen large shifts, just like we do with auto mode gains on camcorders IMO.

Who knows who shot that...and for all we know, Nikon still doesn't care about the film guys. They probably don't even know about this thread. It's aimed toward your consumer market and all they care about are "auto" features.

Don't even think that for a minute. They are watching. That's why they make big bucks. They are clearly interested in the professional market. This DSLR are top of the line.

:) i don't know about "consumer". no way my mom would pay $1300 for a digital camera.

Hunter Richards fixed the exposure jumps in post. Is that a plug in, or did he have to manually fix it frame-by-frame?

Bingo!

But Nikon has been getting there butt kicked by Canon for years. I'm sure once they see the success of the D90 and the number of people using the video feature, They will react with a more robust feature set.... Perhaps in a higher model. If they can "One Up" Canon on anything you know they will try and take advantage of it !!!

how exactly? not trying to stir up a canon vs. nikon pissing contest. just the opposite. all i'm saying is i know plenty of people who shoot canon, and plenty who shoot nikon.

just curious what you meant.

Nikon is clearly watching this forum. Our internet traffic alone back and forth between Nikons own global sites shows where we are linking from.

It's a good thing, since it would be great to get a Nikon rep to come and interact. They can learn quite a lot here; there's volumes of insight for them to improve and update firmware versions etc.

wait up isn't that a shot of another Nikon's LCD and not the LCD of the Nikon taking the shot?

not only that but you can see an exposure jump in that very shot as it starts climbing up and over to reveal the camera behind it. i'm going to watch it again, but it looked like it was a jump in the footage displayed on the LCD showing an 'M' and not the cam shooting the LCD.

I agree. And I didn't say "soccer moms" I said "consumer"...your budding photographer who doesn't know manual controls will get a D90 and focus on your auto features. Then progress to manual type shooting. It's affordable with quality. If said soccer mom has the money the guys at Ritz and circuit city will have a D90 in her hands and taking pictures and videos using everything but manual functions this Sunday.

And they probably are checking out what's being said in the video/film world, but this camera isn't based of our needs. Maybe now, seeing how this forum is bigger than cinetography/reduser/dvinfo combined, they might take a note or two and perhaps a rep will come in and listen to us more, but I dont think the d90 was aimed "directly" for what we want or need. It just happened to be a pretty great coincidence.

Exposure lock or no lock, what Nikon have done thus far is impressive, and thats why I think the indie film community (thats us here and other boards across the cyber village) need to get a petition going:

imagine, say the voice of 50,000 users urge Nikon to push harder in the direction they already are going, do you think they might notice us? (I hope so, if they already haven't) :) perhaps a D movie mark II :D one can dream..

There's no need for a petition. I think when their camera's double in sales and the feedback is noticed, they'll listen. But will Nikon want to merge into the video world? A lot of nikons have been able to take video, this is video being taken with the newest technology trend.
