The end of 35mm adapers and hv20s....

EDIT::

I ment petition Nikon :D

If they are already making this techonology why not repackage it for a another related market?

I second these statements from John, and add this is just a glimpse of what's to come. Good for Nikon! Nikon is going to gain a whole new user base from this technology, and sell a ton load more lenses. Good for us, good for their business. Everyone wins in the long run

For Gods sake, that is the revolution, or maybe the evolution. A Nikon DSLR with a S35 sensor that shoots 24 FPS @ 720p, Nikon lens, SD media in a format ready for most NLEs? In their first version of the camera? If you can't see the writing on the wall there is something wrong with your vision. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having stills and motion capture in the same camera, none whatsoever. Having total image control and then some for both is fantastic. This camera is so revolutionary that a revolutionary company like Red is talking about their own DSLR now. Before Scarlet's prototype was shown at NAB 2008 I envisioned it more as a DSLR design and now this.
Nikon has no video camera business and this will in fact be their first venture into it. And what a way to break in. The D90 as a motion capture camera will undoubtely have many flaws but it is a wonderful beginning for those of us with vision. I want to be part of their video experiment and at the same time own a terrific camera for my still photography business.

I am prety sure Nikon must be working on a more advance version of the DMovie. The market is wide open for affordable powerful motion capture cameras at the 3k to 10k price point. If they come out with a bigger body version, higher definition, total image control and auto focusing using their lenses they will hit the jackpot. It is a matter of time. Put my name on the petition.

Thats what I saying!

And if they are not, WE should demand it :)

I am sure they won't announce their new cameras before they are ready..... In the meantime keep the coversation going. I am sure they are listening.

man it's the demands like this that puts dollar higher for guys like me who are poor. they're going to put out an "affordable" camera that uses slr lens and a lot of manual controls that will do the job fine, for us poor guys. the people who have the money, should go see RED and their developments.

Like I told somedody the other day, we are all poor! Dont worry the hope is that they would keep the price as low as possible. But even if it went to a few thousand dollars for say a 2k camera, S35 sensor, manual and auto control, with all the picture quality controls they have on the D90, Nikon lenses, recording to memory cards and maybe a RAW and RGB workflow, that would be a steal. They can do it if they want because they are a huge company with plenty of technology know how in their hands. We just have to wait and hope. And start saving money.

Thanks.

Did you guys see what Hunter Richard did to the bike clip? Check it out:

Great set up! The beginning of a brand new era. Hunter thank you for the tip on the H4 recorder. It seems pretty cool. Many excellent features. I'll be getting it soon. Thanks again.

BTW the bike clip looks very nice and clean.

Another brand is the Edirol. Has mic jack, but 1/8. But you can get xlr to 1/8. Has some samples on one of their websites. Even the internal mic picks up great audio.

The zoom h-4 is cheaper and has 2 balanced inputs (both xlr and 1/4") The Edirol is nice but I think more for recording business conferences than field sound.
