The end of 35mm adapers and hv20s....

That is not the original footage from the d90, it has been edited and re-compressed. Dead give aways:

1. Every 5th frame is doubled even though the footage is showing that it was exported as 23.98 (thats why it looks so choppy- it shows it was improperly edited at 29.97 and then exported as 23.98)

2. The bit rate is 7.6Mb/s (this is less than 1/2 of the known bit rate range)

3. The file uploaded was an h.264 MOV not MJPEG (which is what the camera actually records files as)

So dont judge quality based on those clips, but with that said, they still look OK. I did notice some skew but that might stand out more from the crappy hand held camera work.

Good ole' sound sync is as easy as a cassette recorder and a pair of hands clapping together. A good cheap one is the the zoom H-4 (I own one) Its very cheap and records great sound in 24 bit to SD card, It even comes with a built-in stereo mic that records surprisingly good sound. It also features 2 xlr inputs.

I went back and looked who posted it; link below

One interesting note from this site, is that the time limit is not the camera but the current size limit of the SD card. That would be awesome. However 5 minutes is plenty for a lot of productions.

Yea... but I'm starting to think that those reviews are pre-scripted. That is a british tech review channel... i mean give me a CNET review or something where they actually use the camera. I want to know why I can only shoot 5 mins at a time. If it is a heat problem as some have stated...poo poo it! If it is a memory buffer issue, as I believe it is, that is totally fine. I can wait 20-30 seconds between a take for the camera to sync up... but 15mins.... it could make an ok b-camera. Especially if that review i read about it taking up 400mbs for 1 minute of footage is true. But those specs sound retarded.

Exactly my thoughts.

That would pretty much be the only deal breaker for me. Wouldn't Chase Jarvis know what the deal is with this?

Something I am probably going to miss if I start shooting video with the D90 is zebra, but maybe there's a way to at least show a histogram on the display while recording?

A guy on another thread here saw the D90 in Japan today at a Nikon demo.

1 Exposure is lockable via. pushing AE/AF button while shooting. I did try this myself and it worked. The pain is that you need to be pushing it during entire shot if you don't want any exposure change happening.

You mean, you have to hold the button down for as long as you want it to stay locked? If so, that is not good. Imagine trying to get a steady shot while trying to hold the button.

From what I've been reading the 5 minute cap was a programming flaw on the prototypes sent out for review. And, if the time cap is 5 minutes... it has nothing to do with a problem with heat. Let's end the speculation, friends, and just wait for this damn thing to come out.

Good luck with ending speculation online :) But seriously, I actually do agree with your point. Right now, I'm not sure if the D90 means I'm selling my DVX100a and K10d or just an interesting curiosity.

Until experienced shooters can actually properly test this thing, it's very much speculation. And even then, it can be tricky. I was one of the first people to have a DVX100a (number 6 in the US) and my first footage was not pretty as the whole exposing to the right, working with cinegamma etc. was not know then.

The D90 has a lot of settings and people who don't shoot motion images have no concept of how shutter speed, lens stabilizing etc. can effect imagery much less the various settings in the D90 may affect video recording.

Since you do the picture settings etc. in the D90 while shooting video, it may well be the a bunch of stuff needs to be turned off before we can actually see 1/48th shutter, clean, tripod mounted stuff that we can download native and actually judge.
