Pick your favorite.

People say color rendition is truer with matte. But things are crisper and contrastier and more saturated with gloss. In the end, your eyes will adjust to either, so it's really a matter of preference.

Glosy does refelct more stuff that's behind you. But this is only annoying if there are bright light sources at just the right angle.

I have matte on my MBP but love the glossy screen on my iMac.

I have glossy on my MBP 17" and find that it's okay. My previous 17" was matte so I've been on both sides of this fence. Apple does put a fairly decent antiglare coating on the glossy screen but you WILL see a fairly clear image of any bright light source that happens to be behind you. For some people, that's a huge distraction. For me.....not so much.

I got the 17" high res Macbook Pro with the matte screen. I went to the Apple store to compare, and I don't like the glossy screen because it picks up reflections from everywhere. If you can turn out the lights, put a lamp behind the computer, it might be OK.

Ditto on reflection, I just got the matte. If it stays in a light controlled area the glossy would be fine but since I use mine in my car, on location, etc the matte has been better with reflections.

matte. used a gloss on a location shoot about two months ago and it was brutal with reflections. drove me nuts.
