WTF!

FCP opens and runs fine. Just updated through software update to latest versions. When i try to open a project that was last saved prior to the updates on Feb 11, it crashes!?!?!? Error says:

"The application final cut pro quit unexpectedly. The problem may have been caused by the ProGraphics plug-in."

I know there was a Leopard Graphics update at the same time. Actually, Apple released a few updates on Feb 11.

Anyone else get this? How do i fix?

I don't think the ProGraphics plugin is Apples. That sounds third party. Do a Spotlight search for it and remove it.

Hey guys I am having this exact same problem right now. Here's what happened.

At work I recently got a new Mac Pro. I pulled all the Hard drives out of my old Mac Pro except the System drive. Then I did a restore from time machine on the new Mac Pro and all was good. It was like I had never gotten a new computer. The only thing I had to do was put the serials back into FCP and I updated the ProKit but that was it.

I opened up some projects that were on my internal Raid and they all played perfect and I even burned out some DVD's of these. Then today a guy I work with came in to work on a project that we work on in our downtime. It's just a DV project that I don't keep on the Raid but on a standard internal drive and its backed up on our xserve. We go to open the project on my Mac Pro with FCP and we get that ProGraphics plug-in error saying it might be to blame. Shane I instantly did a spotlight search for it but came up with nothing. We tried opening it again and it FCP opened but the project would not load, and we had to force quit FCP.

At first I thought it might have to do with permissions because of the whole swap but I went through and all the files and drives are correct. Then I just figured the file was corrupted. So I opened the project on another older Mac Pro with the same version FCP and everything seemed fine. I did a save-as, renamed it, and tried to open it on my computer with no luck. I even moved some footage around in the timeline to really make it a different file.

So now I am really stumped and all our computer guys are too.

I solved the problem today. Heres what you need to do. Go to
http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/download/
and download the Pro Application Update 2008-01 (you will have to put your serial in though to get to the updates). I know you have already updated but do it again anyways and reinstall this. I did it just now and my project opened up perfectly with no crashes or errors. My guess was something went haywire and screwed up some plugin directory and reinstalling it cleaned it all up.

Good luck.

FCP Crash

Same error, but I've already updated to 2008-02. I'm running 6.0.4. Total newbie to Mac and FCP. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Turns out this is related to my having a MacBook (not pro) and an embeded Intel graphics chipset. So long as I do not use Motion when rendering, I have no problem.

I have the same problem while exporting the movie to quicktime movie. While it exported about 80% the it will crash and showed the same window as dpavid said. I will try to update today and see how it will turn out. I have a project it suppose to be due last monday. Now I'm so frustrated. Thank Peter Hootman for your tip.

hi peter, I've tried to reinstall and up date the link you gave and still same thing happened. Do you know another way? Thank you for you time.

Having the same problem as Film... I'm downloading the Motion and ProApps updates now. I think my problem may be with motion, because it's crashing when it's trying to export the motion parts of my movie.

Another problem I've been having is that FCP is playing clips back with a slower audio rate than the video, so sync is off and everyone's voices are lower. :(

UPDATE: Can't install Motion update for some reason.

I would never advise this way of installing the proapps.

It's your call, but a fresh install with updates really is the best practices for many of us.

But again it's your call.
