"I'll Be There" by the Jackson Freaking 5. IIRC, from another source, Clapton's "After Midnight" was #2. If I ever have access to a time machine, I will cash in my 401(k) and buy a SHITLOAD of Clapton 45's...

The Stones' "Paint it Black" would really have been more appropriate, but I missed it by one year.
