Stabilizer for EX1 for trekking/hiking documentary

No, there is no assembly required for the release plates. the top plate connects to the 1/4 hole on the EX! and the bottom plate connects to the 1/4 screw in the tripod, or other support. I don't really like the style of quick release you linked to. The slide in type are in my opinion too cumbersome. I use and am very happy with the :

All I have to do to release the camera is a single lever with a safety latch (similar to the standard release that is on my Satchler. I also like that this style of release because the camera doesn't have to slide in. I don't know for sure, but the slide in quick releases might not work with the shoulder mount since the camera may be b locked by the handle in the back - not sure. I guess you could mount it backwards if need be...

I can't remember the exact shipping speed, but it seems like it was pretty quick. I don't think the are made to order so they should ship asap.

Thanks Carl, I ordered the shoulder mount/counter weights yesterday.

I am gonna get me some of those release plates next. Thanks for all of the info and guidance. :)

Carl - Do you attach the camera right to the shoulder mount?

The little metal locating pin that sticks out of the stabilizer where you attach the tripod is too small for the locating pin hole in cameras, so it does not stay on tight. It moves like 2-4 inches left and right, constantly loosening the mounting screw.

What have you done about this?

I am frustrated.

Yes, I did connect the camera directly when I first bought the mount. I have since added a quick release adapter so I can switch from tripod to mount quickly - see photos:

I am not sure why you are having a problem mounting the EX1. When you say it moves 2-4 inches, do you mean it twists?
