Amost Famous is chickish???

touche Tom Marshall. It is much more than 'chickish' and a chick flick.
it's coming of age, it's the death of rock n' roll, and writing it.

but i will say there is a moment or two in there when i squirt out a tear and try to hide it, know what i mean? and Not because it's with the same actress who was in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days -- but because, well, it gets a little sappy.

don't get me wrong, i Love it. but one might equate sappy with chickish. no?

It's got a couple of chick moments if sappy = chickish, but I wouldn't call it a chick flick at all. It's such an amazing movie, really.

Sappy in a drama is good... it helps balance everything out I think. :)

Before Sunrise
Before Sunset

I love the 'Before' movies, but I don't think I'd call them chick flicks. Romance, yes, but not really chick flicks. In a slightly related, slightly un-related note, I prefer Sunset to Sunrise. I like that they're older, and that they don't have their lives ahead of them. I think there's a much more interesting dynamic there.

I feel another "Ghostbusters" isn't sci-fi debate. I think there are gradations of chick-flicks as it isn't really a genre. Films like Steel Magnolias, Fried Green Tomatoes, Boys on the Side and Beaches are Grade A chick flicks. Movies about and for women and told from their point of view, with nothing designed to appeal to men. The rest are Grade B. Women are the target audience, but there are things in them men can enjoy as men, like the destruction in Titanic, or a male point of view as in Cameron Crowe's films.

We need a definition like this for sci-fi.

I think they are two different kinds of romance films. Before Sunrise is definitely the more romantic one. I even stole some moves, lines, and concepts from that movie and trust me they work.

Before Sunset is a much more adult take on the relationship. With a much deeper meaning to the film.

Both are fantastic films that I never get bored of watching simply because the characters are great and Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy pull off great performances.

The rumor is that Linklater is planning a follow-up in a few years similar to how Before Sunset was a 9-year realtime follow-up to Before Sunrise. I would love to see that. Hell even their 3 minute scene in Waking Life was great.

I like them both, but I kept being distracted in Sunset by how emaciated Ethan Hawke looked, like he just stepped off the train to Auschwitz.

I love "Ten Things I hate about you".

Someone here mentioned Bull Durham, I don't think it's a chick flick, I think it's mainly about Crash and the Rookie pitcher--their relationship; as told from the perspective of Susan Sarrandon. I see it as a father/son story.
