Dog stood guard over its owner's body for six weeks!

Maybe I was just unlucky with my own first dog... but she was a Malamute and she SUCKED... when my parents finally relented and agreed to let me get a dog I got an AKC book and wanted to pick out what I thought would be the coolest dog to own (and I also hoped that it would provide me some sanity against neighborhood bullies)... but I ignored the comments that Malamutes aren't generally that loyal, and that they just want to run. The book was right... that dog sucked.

I had a friend with a chow mix... and that dog was GOLDEN... best dog ever! My sister has a rat terrier that understands 50% of what you say... like really understands it and follows directions... and a karen terrier that's damn near as smart... and a beagle that's just a cool dog along for the ride. My sister is one of those people who lucks out with great dogs.

I'm not too far from getting another dog... and I'm hesitant to pick out my own... but I still think the best way to get a dog is to rescue one from a shelter... for some reason they seem to understand where they are and what it means to get them out. I don't think they ever forget that first day and who saved them.

Why did the dude take his dog with him to commit suicide? Didn't he figure the dog would be stranded out there? If he did off himself, guy sounds like a tool to me.

Agreed. The guy is a bit of a jerk to do that to the dog. Who knows though, maybe he just didn't want to be alone? I guess at that stage you're obviously not thinking straight to begin with.

I don't think the guy committed suicide anyway... it was probably an accident... did you know that .001% of gun enthusiasts suffer from directional dyslexia?

Seriously... about the suicide thing... I'd say it's safe to say that most people who commit suicide aren't thinking about everyone around them logically.
