getting rid of shadows

What are some techniques to do this for static shots basically like a wide shot version of an interview. (with just one 500watt) I usually do 3 point lighting but this room is just way to small.

use some foamcore or some silver reflectors to get the most out of that light you have,
just some bouce cards, use light coming from the windows
(if any) to bouce light into your subject

you have a few options for shadows

1 move the camera as to not shoot the shadows
2. move the light making the shadow
3 bounce some light onto the shadow.

good luck

Also is it bad if you can see the light in the persons eye? In my opinion it is but I think I may have botched this one job because I was rushing and didnt have a monitor to notice stuff like that.

light in there eyes? it depends on how much, you'll actually normally want an eye light as well as a hair light. eyes are wet and shinny so in every day life eyes reflect light, if you avoid it on camera the eyes will look unnatural, or dead.

If they are wearing glasses it is, but especially in sit down interview type footage your going to want to give them a lil eye light to reflect in their pupils...

Glasses are a huge other monster, so much so that i'm all for popping the lenses out, put on track markers and add them back in post.

Raise the lights. A rookie move is to set every light at eye level. (not to offend, I know you have done shooting before...)

well beleive it or not. Thats not my light in the reflection. They had overhead lights that I kept on as fill. I had 1 500watt bouncing off the ceiling. (I didnt come with a whole light kit just one light and stand and some diffusion.) I should have more buisnes with this guy so I will deffinetly spend allot more time on the lighting.

Diffusion would help. I'd even want to put some on a fresnell.

Rosco Opal or Tough White 216. Get a sheet of each, a cheap upgrade now that'll work on any light you buy in the future.

(Sorry, just re-read the thread and noticed you already have diffusion...)

ha its ok. I could have done a much better job if it was more controlled lighting like if I was shooting in a studio but it was just the guys library that was about 6 feet wide and 10 feet long which is why I didnt bring my light kit just one open faced.

Better to bring too much than too little?
