Problems with white balance on indoor shoots

I have the DVX100 and have had problems getting the right look when shooting indoors and adjusting the white balance, usually under fluorescent lighting (i have tried the factory preset for fluoro and I don't like it). Last night for instance, i shot a segment indoors and when i set the white balance everything looked too flat and washed out, so i used the preset 5.6 setting and it was OK but a bit too red..........wondering if a filter for fluoro light situations would work better, or does someone have some pre-sets that give a good vibrant (not too red) picture indoors????????:dankk2:

Yes, there are filters to compensate for fluorescent lighting. Off hand I don't know the exact filter, but if you call B & H Photo in New York and ask for the video Professional department they will advise you on the correct filter to use.

What kind of flos are you using? Maybe they aren't good quality, in which case they can be hard to white balance to.

Are you using the correct white balance procedure? Using a white/gray card under the lights, properly exposed, and filling the frame?

Yes I am using the correct procedure to white balance. I have no control over the lights used indoors they are whatever was used in the building.

The lights are probably just poor quality lights, with CRI's in the 70's or lower. These can have extreme colors spikes that WB can't compensate for. An FL filter might help, but might not. The lights might also cause flickering issues if they don't have electronic balasts.

Can you kill the lights and light it yourself? That's what I usually do in situations like this.

Would like to be able to use my own lighting, but usually it is an event where cutting the lights would not be a feasable option. I will try a fl filter on my next shoot and see if it helps. Thanks for the comments.
