32 gig SxS on August 11th

One can only hope this will soon trigger a down trend in prices, with the 32GB selling for the price of a 16, the 16 moving down to the price of the 8s and the 8s being cut in about half...
 
Where they at? Can we expect some price drops for the 8gbs, and the 16gbs?

nevermind someone on DVInfo.net said they won't be expected until September. bummer! I want the 16gbs to drop the price!

This is comparable to the price of a 32gb P2 card.

But another way to think of this is that for the about cost of 3x 32gb cards you could have a NanoFlash with 6 32gb Transcend cards. And be working in 4:2:2

My thoughts exactly! The convergent design nanno/flash is the way to go! transcends 32 gig flash card goes for $130.00.
 
Its not really a nanoflash or SxS decision though. If you want long record times it is the 32GB SxS you need, if you want the highest quality you can get you get the nanoFlash.

I don't see the point in the nanoFlash if you are just going to record in 35Mbps. Do it to SxS and don't worry about having to lug around a large tethered box which needs power as well.

I don't like the price as much as anyone, but we know in time it will drop and 32GB cards give a fair bit of recording time.

Did someone once mention that the EX1 would need a firmware upgrade to use the 32GB card, or are we set to go if we buy one and pop it in?
 
For PMW-EX1's:
You will need a firmware upgrade from Sony to:


  • Be able to use the 32GB's
  • Be able to use the PHU-60k Hard Drive.
  • 24Psf “Live” output from the camera
  • Change to Chinese Language (Currently English and Japanese).
Grrr, we are kind of disappointed that Sony won't allow us resellers or even SONY FACTORY SERVICE CENTERS like us to do the firmware upgrades. We're still working on a solution at E.C. .
 
That's Sony Canada. I'm in the US. I guess we'd best contact our San Jose facility to find out. Hope they're not going to charge us for this.

I just came back from a meeting with my Sony account manager. It seems like there will be a labor cost for the upgrade. I will find out more when we have it on paper.

If you are in the East Coast, Teaneck, New Jersey will be the facility for firmware upgrades. San Jose does the repairs and also firmware upgrades.
