EX1, alternative to Steadicam Merlin

Not me... in fact they haven't answered my last email of about a week ago asking about placing an order. At this point even if they did start selling them I'm not sure I'd buy from them. It looks like a potentially good product.

I have a modified Glidecam 2000. My pole has been changed to a longer pole. I also added weights that take the same shape as the bottom plate. I find it looks better than those ugly washers they supplied. Any way's, yes she is heavy, who cares if you have a vest and the arm. It works fine!
I think with the small modifications I had made. It works better than any other rig I have used.
Try modifying your Glidecam 4000 more than what you said. Im sure since the 2000 works then yours should work as well.

There is no need to spend $1000 on any of this stuff. Learn to modify what you already have.
Hell take your Glidecam to a welding shop and have them make some quick changes. It wont even cost you $100.

My last email from them said they were on vacation in August, opening again in September. I'm still interested: me and a friend of mine tried to build our own steadycam from a metal pole, a lot of wood and some dumbell weights. It works, but it's sooooo heavy. We got some nice shots, but the audio track reveals the grunting of the operator. Now the machine crafted aluminium and smooth gimbels of the Sanda look much more appealing! :laugh:

Hey guys. I just invented a new camera stabilization system, The Indy Steadycam, that is simple, easy to use and very affordable. there are videos of The Indy Steadycam in action so that you can see how good the footage is that it helps you capture and you can see me using so you get an idea of how it works. Check it out. www.theindysteadycam.com

Varizoom???

Varizoom???

I am in the same situation, need something light for travel.

Has anyone already tried varizoom?

Flowpod - Handheld Stabilizer w/ Monopod for Cameras 1-9 lbs.

Handheld Stabilizer w/ Quick-release for Cameras 2-7 lbs.

The price is nice and available in many places.

Lower the centre of gravity by adding all those weights you get with the 4000. I always struggled my ass off to balance my GC 4000 then added 6 front 8 back weights and worked beautifully.

It took me some time to figure that out,
get the Merlin accessory plate from B&H ($139), that will fix your problem,
I couldn't get EX1 in balance without it; hand held I could go about a minute;
after I got an arm and vest I thought I can load it with WA lens, QR adapter and light, but that is over the Merlin's capacity;
The cheapest decent sled I can find is $1300 from movcam, does anybody know any alternatives?
Thanks!
Hi, Just purchased the EX1 & Merlin but was going to return the Merlin because I couldn't get it to balance. Did you say on your post that once you got the plate you were able to balance it? If so, would you mind sharing the settings you used and how its working for you? Much Appreciated!
