Has anyone ever had a recurring dream?

Okay, so i had a dream last night, and i have one of the WORST memories in the world, but i remember having this dream in elementary school....bout 7 years ago.. anyone else ever have something like this happen to them?

yup, several times. sometimes i dream about living in this apartment i've never seen, or lived in. but it's shown up about 5 times in my life, in my dreams.

I used to have recurring dreams where I was in the same new city... and in my dream I'd drive around an area looking for my apartment... and it was always the same city, but the dream would start off in different areas, but I always found my way to the area of my home, but I never found the actual place... I just felt frustrated that I was right there and couldn't find it. They were stucko apartments with a mediterranean look, with red terra cotta roofs, it's very exact every time... the area is lower then the street that I'm coming down... like it's down a valley from the more commercial areas...

When I was a kid I enjoyed dreams of flying... or having super-human abilities in sporting events... and those were recurring. It was fun being in a dream and remembering my hidden ability... and suddenly being able to run like the wind.

ahhh that sounds awesome, the super power thing, the weird thing was, in mine, it was with this girl christie, and in the elementary school version she was wat she looked like in elementary school, and in the highschool version, now, she looked like she does now! and i havent talked to this girl in so long! also one with vampires, ugh. hahah keep em coming!

i've actually had quite a few zombie dreams as well, especially when I was in the thick of playing Resident Evil 2.
My actual recurrent dream (or theme as the dreams themselves aren't identical) is being back in school. it's either h.s or the collegiate level, but it usually involves sitting down for an exam and not being the least bit prepared. In reality, i was a good student so this rarely ever happened. I looked this up on a dream website and it is considered one of the top types of recurring dreams. It derives from a lack of self-confidence .

For a few months earlier this year I had this dream where all my indicator lights (check engine, airbag, brakes etc. - there's probably 20 of them) start coming on one after the other as I drive home. While its not exactly a good thing, I always woke up like it was a terrible nightmare. Then the dreams just stopped... Weird stuff.

Yes many different ones, they are either very vivid and disturbing or very euphoric in nature (flying, floating, intense white light etc).

And a particular one that is very very strange (just paradoxic geometeric shapes and feelings of density and infinity)

I used to have a recurring dream where I'd wake up just as a basketball was about to hit me in the face. Used to just about jump out of bed and no, I'm not crap at basketball so
I don't really get it.

Spiders coming down from the ceiling on a web... always just one coming right down at my face... ironically I got a scar from a spider bite... on my face... and I've never had those dreams since.

I don't think I've ever had a recurring dream before. When I was younger I'd have strong feelings that some of my dreams were recurring, but I couldn't actually remember having those dreams more than once. When I was little (like before I turned 8), my nightmares always included me being naked in public.

I've been writing down my dreams every night all summer, and not one of my dreams has been remotely similar to another. I highly recommend doing this. Not only are they entertaining to read a few months later once you've forgotten about them, but the more you do it, the more vivid and easy to remember your dreams will be.

On the subject of dreams, I've come up with a hypothesis about dreams. All things in dreams that inspire fear create an equal amount of fear.

Here are some examples of things that have been in my dreams in the past week that were somehow nightmares.

1) Skeletons chasing me at night.
2) A strong feeling that Sonic the Hedgehog was nearby hurting people (I was in a mall) and he might see me.
3) Standing in a lake while people fished all around me. Fear was not of fish but of hooks getting in my skin.

Obviously it would seem like the skeletons would be the scariest dream, but each of these seemed to max out my fear level.

Mine is falling from a rope bridge somewhere remote over this deep rugged canyon. That one always wakes me up in a cold sweat.

I avoid rope bridges now at all costs. LOL

I've done extensive research on dreams and dreaming... and based on my past studies you're a p&ssy. :)

Just kidding... I had skeleton nightmares when I was a kid. It's odd that skeletons are so scary... why is that? Do they subconsciously represent death? I wonder how that seed gets planted... versus Mexico where they see skeletons as almost charming. I think my fear in skeletons chasing me was the absurdity of something being propelled by evil... since there wasn't any muscular structure to justify movement... Oh wait... I just figured it out... Jason of the Organauts.

Sonic looks evil... and he gets around quickly... makes sense.

The fishing thing is either a subconscious fear of developing a painful relationship with new people you meet... or perhaps you stuck yourself with a fishhook when you were a little boy... and seeing all the rods casting through the day was a vivid reminder of what's on the end.

Hmm... tell me about your mother...

I've had some fun ones (they were actually kind of scary when I first had them). Actually I have had dreams that continued like some bad television show and I've had recurring characters. I've had a four part dream over five days once. It started with my art teacher, working at a Chicago Carry Outs (that restaurant I film in all the time but it had a different name then). She had on a leather French maid outfit. My friend and I sat at the table and she bought a covered dish over to us. I made a comment that I thought she was cute in the outfit. She looked like a manga character (my teacher was Asian and taught that style of art).

I remember making a comment about not knowing she worked there. She told me to shut up. I believe I said something some smart comment to her. She lifted the top off the tray and a Uzi lay on the plate. She took it and shot my friend in cold blood. I think I shoved the tray into her and flipped the table over and ran away crying.

Later I met Dark Man (I hadn't seen the Dark Man movie, only commercials, which I barely remember and posters). Dark Man was dying and had a briefcase he needed delivered to someone. He gave it to me as well as the ability to change into "Dark Man". In the dream I would look into the mirror and force myself to change. I swore vengeance on my art teacher and all her clique (I was sure they were involved).

After taking them all down, mainly just beating them up or chasing them through the streets as i don't really remember fighting anyone but my art teacher and kicking the crap out of her jerk-ass friend who ( in real life) had taken a position I had suggested the company created. But I did a lot of running, jumping over things and posing as my trench coat blew in the wind. It was a lot of fun. After all was said and done and we mourned my friend. Later (unknown to us) he burst from the grave as a superhero. (One I had created ironically). I also delivered that package too but I don't know to who.

I could get into the Zombie gurl and Cyborg gurl dreams but that would take too long. I will say Zombie gurl was coolest. Her choice of weapon changed over the years. From butcher's knife to axe, she started to talk and became intelligent over time. My final dream with her in it involved a corporation that were making android clones of me and putting them in my classes (my grammar school and high school were one building in my dreams). Some how I found out they were going to make them hurt my teacher (one I particularly liked) and the students. I think Zombie gurl and some evil dude had something to do with that corporation. I don't remember the dream exactly but in the end I know I had to fight an powerful android version of myself who could fly. I assumed that if he could fly and was an exact copy of me then I could fly too. I kicked his butt. Of course once you wake up and think about it. That logic made no sense considering it was an android. Whatever. In another dream I took out Zombie gurl, with the axe after she had cut me and tried to kill me. Didn't matter anyway because the last part of the dream the evil guy found her and simply started stitching her back up. And I remember feeling that if they came after me or my family or my school again I'll have to take them both down. @$$holes. LOL.

In time I actually eradicated my nightmares. I find in my dreams nothing scares you if you fight everything. And sometimes things that should be scary are pretty funny. In fact the only thing that really frightened me was if innocents were about to get hurt because sometimes I wasn't always sure I could do anything.

Makes sense. The very things I dreamed about were things that have inspired me. Robots, Zombies, vampires, superheroes, sci-fi-type stuff. All of these are elements I actually love and that inspire me. As scary as they were my dreams have inspired my films and stories. I had a dream once where someone had killed me and admitted it a my funeral and I came back to get them. Later one my most beloved films became "The Crow". By the way it's not true that when you die in a dream you die in real life. (Unless you're in a Freddy film and I dreamed about him twice). LOL.

I have had recurring dreams (I think). When I was younger I used to have a similar dream many nights of the week (I think). The reason I say "I think" is because I have discovered (through personal experience) that it is possible to have a dream that makes you think you had it years ago, if that make sense. What I mean is I had a dream once and I woke up thinking I had had it a year before as well but upon further thought I realized my brain was making me THINK I had had the dream a year before but in reality that night was the first time (I think :))

The Zombie Gurl dreams are like that, but at the time I did remember one or two of the original dreams. I remember all the Android girl dreams, save one I'm not too clear on they started when I was real young. And I've also fought a robot clone of myself when I was younger but the robot advance as you advance in age, so the themes do keep coming up. All my robots dreams dealt with robots that looked like the ones of that time (I loved robots but had a fear of them too). As time moved on and more ideas for how a robot/android could look the design changed. I believe zombie girl carried a knife when I first dreamed her up, the last time it was a double headed axe.

I had a couple recurring for about 10 years growing up until about 16-18 maybe.

The same ones over and over then they eventually stopped.
It involved a big ball of tin foil being crumpled into a smaller ball, but, it would never totally crumple. It was like an infinite state of being crumpled but never reaching it's final state. You'd have to experience it.

Now, it's usually a result of what I'm doing that day.

Programming all day = dreams of infinite loops that are not solveable, infinte repetition, which in a dream, can drive you nuts.

I get a lot of those flying floating dreams like I'm sliding down a path but I never hit the ground.
Just flying along like I'm in an easy chair, flying right down the street with my ass 2 feet off the ground waving my arms to stay afloat.

You know I have never thought of that connection!

I think your spot on about the link Raptor, it can be really stressful having those infinte type dreams,

hehe and they said dreaming was suppose to be good for ya! :D
