Vegas 6.0 Sufficient to Edit XDCam Footage?

I'm doing a shoot for a friend who intends to edit the footage himself. He has Vegas 6.0. From all the Googling I could do, I read that it supports XDCam and MXF files, but could find no discussion on whether it works well enough to edit a short form video.

In the event that 6.0 can't perform reliably, what is a good format that I can export to from Premiere CS3 that he can edit with safety (does not have to be high def format)?

We're going to be shooting later this evening (Friday), so expedience is the name of the game in finding out.. Thanks!

Hi Mark...V6 does handle HDV Footage but is limited with the number of files it can handle...I shot a featrure on a Z1 and it couldn't the entire project...the problem was resolved with V7 ...and of course we are now at V8...the cost of upgrading is dirt cheap so I would reccomend a step up to V7 or 8

I use Vegas 8 with MXF files exported from the clip browser. No issues to report, performance is good and everything works.

My client normally works with DV footage, so he feels no desire to buy an upgrade that he won't use after today's edit, which is why I wanted to confirm whether v6's MXF XDCam compatibility is really there, as Sony claims in their features list for v6. Both HDV and XDCam are new in v6, but I have no data on whether XDCam actually works in v6.

I sent my client a small clip in MXF wrapper format and he tried it. He gets only audio in Vegas 6--no picture. He checked to make sure all the DLLs were installed properly and they were. So it appears Vegas 6 does NOT support MXF, except reading audio only.

Now we're in a bit of a conundrum, because the alternatives are to convert the whole thing to MPEG2 720p and give him that, or .. gasp.. convert it to DVC PRO 24 and lose the color resolution.

Oddly enough, when I opened the clip in Vegas 8, it has a MainConcept logo bug in the upper left corner. Does this mean that you have to register the MainConcept part of Clip Browser 2.0 in order to rewrap to MXF? No wonder it took hours to rewrap--it was re-rendering the whole thing in MainConcept's format.
