I would love to do a time lapse shot with my DVX 100A, bu I have no idea how to do it. Can anyone here instruct me on how to do a time lapse??
I appreciate all your feedback and advice!!:dankk2:

I've done timelapse using a DVX100B and a FireStore external hard drive, but I don't know of a way to do it using DV tape.

the best way is to plug your dvx into a laptop and use a program that can interval record

for pc - lots of people recommend onlocation by adobe
and for mac -i think dvmonitor pro does this

then you wont kill the heads of your dvx filming a time lapse :)

edit: oh and remember to hit the record button through the laptop

the dvx is picky about that ive heard

Hey THANX for your info, I appreciate it!!

Yeah, I also thought that the 100A does interval record.

But, if you want to use iMovie (I'm not sure what version you're using maybe it's still got it)

1. Connect your camera to your laptop via Firewire.
2. Click on the little camera in the middle under the view and select "Time Lapse".
3. Check the checkbox and choose an amount of frames.
4. Hit okay and hit import and you're all set to go. Then you can export it and use the clip in Final Cut or Avid or whatever...

Hope this helps. Depending on your other options upgrading to iMovie HD may be cheaper than other alternatives.

Remember that if you do an extended time lapse with your camera on interval record it does put wear and tear on the heads. This method puts no wear and tear, just make sure you've got the batter power and hard drive space to keep up with it!

If I were just to use the DVX100A itself for time lapse, without hooking up to HDmovie, how exactly do I do that?

In the recording setup menu play around with these settings:

Interval Rec This item sets the intermittent recording mode, you have 3 selections.
OFF: The Intermittent operation function is turned off.
ON: When the START/STOP button is pressed, recording will be performed for the num-
ber of seconds set by the REC TIME item and the INTERVAL TIME item.
One-Shot: This item will set the camcorder into a time lapse recording mode. When the
START/STOP button is pressed, the VCR will go into the recording mode controlled by the
seconds that were set up in the REC TIME item, then go into the record pause mode.
Note: When placed into the intermittent recording mode or one-shoot, an “I” will flash on the
EVF and display it on the top of the screen. Once the recording has started it will stop
flashing. If the power is turned off the Interval Rec will return to OFF. When in the 24P or
24P ADV modes you will not be able to use the Interval Rec function.

Rec Time This item is used to set the recording duration for which intermittent recording is
to be performed. Normally set to 0.5 seconds, you can change this to 1 second, 1.5 second
or 2 seconds.

Interval Time This item sets the duration of the interval time with which intermittent re-
cording is to be performed. Normally set to 30 seconds, you can change this to 1 minute,
5 minutes or 10 minutes.

That should get you started, it's been a while since I've messed around with a 100A let alone the Time Lapse feature...

Thank you very much for all that info!! I really appreciate it, very kind of you.

Thanx again!!

Would anyone care to tackle the task of doing time lapse from DVX100B to Firestore FS 4 HDPRO? I just purchased my Firestore unit and I would LOVE to do time lapse with it. Thank you for your time.

I believe this is not an option also as a DVX100B owner, I had to get a 100A for the time laps, its clearly mention in the Barry Green DVX book that the fonction is only available for DVX100 and DVX100A
