"Corrado" - A production blog

Good news, my website is almost complete and I have asked my designer to add in a "media" area, where my complete unabridged printed blog will be available for download in .pdf form for absolutely free to whomever wants it.

Special thanks to Shawn(eous) for taking the time to compile this great work for everyone to share.

On another note, I've received many requests lately to turn my blog into a book for sale. Although I am flattered with these requests and ideas, I want to plainly state my thoughts on this:

I will in no way, shape or form profit from the advice given in this blog. The thought of me profiting from selling you guys an expanded version of what I presented here seems crass. I am not in this to make money selling advice, only movies. So let the requests please stop for the book version - the closest you will get is the free .pdfs available only on my website.

What you say Adam? No book + 3 hour Making of Corrado DVD? Sheesh! Where's my freaking Corrado swag? LOL. But seriously, please have extras on the DVD. I love to watch the filmmaking process happen, especially in action and adventure films.

Egypt - your right. No BTS footage. Even thought several people offered I didn't take them up on it. I have tons of stills but no footage.

I kind of regret it now, it's one of my (many) mistakes. On Movie #2 Dan Brockett will be doing the BTS stuff because that's what he does for a living.

Made this mistake on my first project. Didn't matter because the distributor didn't use the BTS stuff we sent anyway. Now we never shoot a feature without BTS.

Feel free to hire me for BTS. I live on the east coast... but for the right price i can travel to LA (somewhere around like $60,000 :p). I'll use my super awesome HF10 that i just got last week!
i'll even do post for an additional 10,000!

but on a slightly more serious note

How much does it cost to have someone do your BTS footage on average?

no worries. you do a ken burns documentary thing with the stills, then get a bunch of dvxers to reenact the filming.

anyone look like tom sizemore from say, 200 feet away?

problem solved.

Which gives me an idea, slim - I could just call the cast and do BTS. I wouldn't have to pay for a half hour worth of interviews - I know these guys too well now.

Egypt - I actually have no idea what BTS costs - Paging Dan Brockett - he could tell us.

damnit i just reached the end of this thread. i honestly expected it to go on forever and now i am sad and sitting at work with nothing to do! thanks for the good times and i'll check back tomorrow for my fix (withdrawal already?!).

I'm huge in South Africa, baby!

Anyways, here is an article about Stelio Savante, one of my actors in Corrado. He also had a role in Starship Troopers Marauder recently, which had South African release and thus publicity.

Lots of buzz on Corrado in there as well as a nice photo of me!

Mr. Cultaro,

I have never seen a thread get this kind of attention.

I'd just like to say thank you for making the time to help us out!

you should totally do it man. i'm guessing that it wouldn't necessarily help you since you'll get your $$$ from the distributer regardless, but maybe that would help with the distro deal as a whole?

either way, i would love to see that happen.

Thanks guys....

Had an interesting evening tonight. I usually attend a small pseudo celebrity event called Friends of El Faro. I went year before last and met Ben Stiller and Laura Dern, as well as Jack Johnson and a couple other celebs. I figured it would be a good place to pump Corrado, since in my book publicity is the name of the game.

Here is Wisdom: If you have buzz, you have success.

I figured I would ask Tom to go since I wanted to get more attention for the movie, and he agreed.

We showed up at 8:00 for the red carpet.

Now I have done a slew of red carpets before, but it was different in the past. I usually had to explain who I was and why I wanted to be on the carpet, etc.

Not this time. Tom walked ahead of us and the crowds parted. He walked right past the line, past all the people. I saw the lady with the clipboard whisper to the security guy...."that's Tom Sizemore"...he immediately cleared the way for us and we walked on the carpet.

All the majors were there, Getty Images, Wireimage, you name it. They took a zillion pictures....one guy was there with a tape recorder, wanted to know who I was.

I told him I directed Tom's latest film and they all asked for my name and took even more pictures of us.

His fan base is amazing. I didn't really comprehend it before this.

The photogs were like: "looking good Tom" and "Good to see you out again"..I think they new him from before.

When we left there was a group of fans with all kinds of Saving Private Ryan posters and pictures that all wanted him to autograph their stuff. They came out of nowhere....calling his name...Tom! Can you sign this!!!!!
.
Who knows where they got the posters..I think they ran home to get them and then waited hours till we came out! I didn't give anyone prior notice he was coming

Then we proceeded to the ticket area. I was pulling my wallet out to pay for us all ($150 per person, amigo, for the VIP section!!!!!)

The bouncer dude found out I was a director and immediately softened. He asked me to consider him for my next film and I gave him my number. He had a pretty good look to him actually, I could use more thugs.

Then the hostess came out and greeted us like we were royalty....We got the Gold wristbands that let you access the upstairs VIP area......for free.

Don't you know joe, big actors don't pay squat for anything. I was shocked. $450 value and because of Tom...free.

And he got tons of stares and attention inside. Easily the biggest star I saw there all night in a sea of reality and soap stars.

I thought it was important to get him out in the limelight again. This is his first public appearance since he got out of jail and he did great. When he first saw the lights and crowd he was a little apprehensive, then we just went and did it.

I've got to tell you guys....notwithstanding the Brandon Rices (Kudos to you, my friend) of the world who can make an amazing film with no name talent and still sell it, getting a major celebrity in your movie is so key.

I've got so much press...free press.....and so much attention for simply paying a bit more to have them in my film. All it was was money, and I am now more convinced than ever that name actors will sell your film for you. You don't even have to lift a finger. You'll get all the publicity you need just by having them.

I'll post the shots as soon as Wireimage and Getty have them up on their site.
