is FCE a viable option?

I am a PC user otherwise id just be looking into getting FCP. I am wondering what some of the limitations are to the express version. Also is the interface basically the same so that there's no learning curve when upgrading to FCP (IF i get A mac someday)

Im trying to decide right now between FCE or Premiere. Pretty much decided against AVID due to its learning curve.

Ill be shooting with a DVX100b and will want to do lots of slow mo shots. I will also use after effects for CC and effects. Is FCE capable of slo mo techniques like step printing, frame blending, pixel motion? Or just processing over-cranked footage?

One advantage to going with premiere I guess would be the ease of transfer into AE. But if the FCE interface is the same as FCP then it would be advantageous to learn that interface for the future.

So im kinda at a standstill here and Im not sure what to do. Is there are any reasons why I couldnt or shouldnt use FCE to cut a feature? Or are there compelling reasons to go with Premiere over FCE other than ease of transfer to AE. Unfortunately buying a MAC isnt an option for me right now.

I realize im new at this and I plan to shoot several shorts before going full speed ahead into a feature, im working on one right now using ulead media studio pro which is ok i guess. But from what Ive read the pros use one of the big 3, and mainly FCP and AVID at that. So Id like to continue learning on something more comonly used with more advanced features.

wow. I dont know why I thought that. So there is no FC version for PC then.

guess that makes my choice a little easier. Thanks for the help.

I'm running FCE2 and have some serious capture issues (i'm thinking timecode) with my DVX100B that i just got. My buddy has essentially the same machine but is using FCP 4 and there are no issues. Has anyone ever heard of this and has the issue been workoed out in FCE4? I'd really like Pro/ studio my self but the cost is an issue right now. Thanks!

Best to start your own thread and to details your hardware, RAM, OS, FCE version numbers and scratch disc set up.

Capture issues could be due to 24 frame recording. Older FCE doesn't support a 24 frame timeline. I just found that out the hard way. Now I'm using Vegas Pro.

i didn't shoot in 24P. I was aware that FCE would not work in that mode. I think it's a software glitch you'll never find in a manual. I just wonder if it's been sorted out in newer versions of FCE. Of course, I do like the other software packages in the Pro suite and FCP's compatibility with the 24p is compelling as well.
